If so, Harper and Iggy are to be totally blamed for this phenominia happening by centering far too much on personalities, 'scary' backgrounds, etc.in their US-styled, attack ads.

Also, if so, it looks as though Smilin' Jack and his NDP socialists, with Karl Marx's 'Communist Manifesto', rewritten to Canadian standards and hidden firmly under their left arms, are coming up the centre.

What do Canadians do for a living? Surely by now the world knows we’re not all lumberjacks. We’re factory workers and store owners and software engineers and advertising executives. Oh, and public servants. Lots and lots of them. In fact Statistics Canada says more than 3.5 million of us work for government, more than any other significant category. It seems we’ve turned into a land of hewers of memos and drawers of regulations.

Recently, Stephen Moore of the Wall Street Journal warned that nearly twice as many Americans work for government as in manufacturing. Worse, "More Americans work for the government than work in construction, farming, fishing, forestry, manufacturing, mining and utilities combined. We have moved decisively from a nation of makers to a nation of takers."

As Grampa Simpson once said, welcome to my world.

According to Statistics Canada’s latest labour force survey released on April 8, just over 17 million Canadians had jobs in March and 3.563 million were in the public sector, nearly twice the 1.786 million in manufacturing. True, our total figure for the "goods-producing sector" of agriculture, natural resources, utilities, construction and manufacturing is 3.841.5 million, more than a quarter-million bigger than government. But wait.

The survey doesn’t count the 65,000 full-time members of the Canadian Forces, so the gap shrinks to 217,000. Plus, of 148,900 people in utilities, 125,100 are public, bringing the gap down to 92,000. And detailed StatsCan numbers show 10,000 public employees in "forestry, fishing, mining, quarrying, oil and gas", 20,400 in construction and 1,900 in manufacturing. Bottom line: a mere 59,000 more Canadians still make stuff than work for the state. For now.

The labour survey also says more people work in government than in any category of services. More than "trade" (2,653.2 million), "professional, scientific and technical services" (1,296.9 million) or "accommodation and food services" (1,080.6 million), let alone minor areas such as "transportation and warehousing" (just 830,000) or once-mighty "agriculture," now only 310,000.

As Moore rightly says, shrinking employment in agriculture is primarily the result of staggering efficiency gains over time. In this country, one farmer can now feed 100 of his fellows.

Similar things have happened in manufacturing and to some extent even private services.
But where are the gains in government? Moore notes that real (inflation-adjusted) education spending per pupil in the U.S. doubled from1970-2005 but test scores didn’t budge. And here in Canada, infrastructure crumbles and garbage collection is cut back, our military shrinks and our deficit grows, as more and more people on the public dime are taking more and giving less every day.

Yes, it’s a fiscal problem too. As Moore went on to note about our southern neighbour: "Nearly half of the $2.2-trillion cost of state and local governments is the $1-trillion-a-year tab for pay and benefits of state and local employees. Is it any wonder that so many states and cities cannot pay their bills?" And what about here?

Politicians promising a ruthless war on waste usually say they won’t cut programs or lay off staff. What else do they think government spends on?

Besides, there are fewer than a million classic "bureaucrats" in this country.

"Public administration" employs just 964,200 people - and that category, strangely, includes 84,500 police officers and 24,200 prison guards, hardly stereotypical pencil pushers.

All the rest are delivering programs, primarily health (965,200) and education (1.057 million) though 161,000 work in "transportation and warehousing," 120,000 in "information, culture and recreation" and 49,400 in "finance, insurance, real estate and leasing", with 165,000 scattered in other service industries.

Finally, this swollen public sector has political implications. Activists and advocates denounce industries lobbying government as vested interests - powerful, wealthy and not to be trusted. But government itself is now the largest vested interest in the country.
Every election, 3.5 million Canadians worry that cuts will affect their job.

They may share their neighbours’ concerns with high taxes and declining services or not. But they have a direct material interest in not cutting taxes, for their own sakes, for their families and for their colleagues.

And they make up more than one in seven eligible voters. Takers not makers, at work, at play and in the voting booth.

What a good article, full of facts and clear observations. Ronnie Reagan ran for Governor in California with the famous campaign promise to "Get The Government Off Your Back".

Through his years as Governor, the State Public Service increased over 30% and California approached bankrupcy. He went on to become President using the same campaign slogan. The result was similar for the nation.

All politicians promise to reduce costs... But it never happens. By the very nature of departmental structures, power struggles, endless public money (taxation), Union expectations, private sector expectations, new safety codes, and other factors, It Just Ain't Going To Happen. Not in California, Washington, Ottawa, Toronto or Belleville.

There is nothing in the structure to promote efficiency.

VOTP's recent chat with the Toronto Brass seemed to confirm this point. The idea of giving the department heads a "bonus" has possible merits. But, OH, what a tough sell that would be to the "taken-advantage-of" taxpayer.

EDITOR: It was a meeting that VOTP would rather forget. The political and silly servive 'tail' continues to wag 'the taxpayer dog'. VOTP had thought that, with Toronto's new Mayor, there was hope. Apparently, not.

Over the centuries war has taken on various iterations. It has been in turn a tribal thing, a territorial thing, a religious thing, a political thing, a recreational thing. Now it has become a financial thing.

War used to be a serious business. It required an Act of Congress. But the cult of deregulation has loosened the rules. Suitable nomenclature can now overcome this technicality. Counter terrorism. Peacekeeping. Regional conflict. Freedom fighting. Limited operation. Regime change. Logistical support. The list is endless.

It has actually become a marketable export. It can be transported rapidly to any promising area rather like a traveling circus. Certain people are offered inducements to foment unrest or incite violence which is then co-opted by other parties.

The ensuing chaos and financial dislocation are fertile ground for foreign ‘assistance’; everyone from bankers to construction companies, developers, security consultants and arms dealers. It is a common misconception that war is expensive. Only for certain people. For others it provides un-paralelled economic opportunity. It is effectively the maximization of conflict.

The chief beneficiaries are military contractors. These people do everything from supplying ammunition to wrapping sandwiches.

It is no longer important who wins. The participants are carefully selected to ensure a favourable outcome.

What is important is that everyone follow the blueprint in order to minimize unexpected events.

Independent reporting is frowned upon. The embedded journalist can guarantee a coherent perspective for the guy eating pizza in front of his television. He is the guy who is actually paying for this but as long as his pizza arrives on time he doesn’t know or care.

EDITOR: If 20% or more of the world's most powerful country in the history of the planet was not based on its Military-Industrial-Complex, I could argue, but I can't.

PANIC-BUTTON TIME FOR IGGY

It is no small wonder why The Liberal Party has pushed the panic button and brought former PMs Paul Martin and Jean Chrétien out of the closet of their scandal-ladened pasts.

Their mission is to shadow and boost support for their ‘non-elected, appointed’ Leader, Michael Ignatieff in the last two weeks of the 2011 campaign.

He’s the guy who, of all people, strangely keeps yapping about ‘democracy’.

The latest, of VOTP’s most trusted poll, shows the reason:

Smilin’ Jack has continued to swamp the Liberal’s second professor-leader in a row, in almost every category.

CONCLUSIONS:

1) Canadians like Smilin’ Jack.

2) Canadians don’t like Smilin’ Jack’s ‘NDP Party’.

3) If Smilin’ Jack was Leader of the Liberal Party, the party of Stephen Harper could be facing a majority government, a Liberal government majority government.

4) Following whatever happens on May 2nd, a ‘Unite the Left’ movement, between the Liberals and NDP, is almost impossible to avoid.

Pulling out ‘yesterday’s men’ of the Liberal Party, to boost the electoral fortunes of Iggy, will turn out to be a last ditch effort which is doomed to fail. It could actually boomerang when people are reminded why they rejected the Liberals 5-years ago.

VOTP strongly suspects that Stephen Harper will be there to remind Canadians why they threw the Libs out in the first place.

The band was from South Carolina and ranged from 14 to 17 years of age. If you were "alive" in '56-'57, you may remember their one-hit-wonder, 'Black Slacks'. Joe Bennett and the Sparkletones were even put on the Nat King Cole Show with a follow up record and and clearer-in-sound, updated (new band jackets) replay of 'Black Slacks'. But their 15-minutes of fame in the history of rock 'n roll was over. At my Hi-Y, YMCA/YWCA sock hops, fellow teens would 'half the beat' and actually dance to it. Not only 'dance to it', Black Slacks was a guarantee to get the real rockers ;up on the floor' in am instant. The song was later slowed down and 'covered' by a few others, a recognition of success that any recording band looks for. Like most 'covers', none went anywhere. IGGY'S QUESTIONABLE, 'FAMILY HERITAGE'

One must challenge 'the humble beginnings' of Michael Ignatieff's family, who Michael says 'got off the boat', implying that grandad barely had the shirt on his back, when he arrived in Canada to 'make something of himself'. Here are some interesting unchallenged enties in wikipedia ... Michael's grandad, Count Pavel Nikolayevich Ignatiev (Russian: Павел Николаевич Игнатьев, sometimes rendered in English as Paul Ignatieff) (June 30/July 12, 1870 Istanbul– August 12, 1945) was an Imperial Russian politician. Pavel's father Count Nikolay Pavlovich Ignatyev,was Russian Minister of the Interior under Tsar Alexander III of Russia. Count Ignatieff married Princess Natalya Meshcherskaya (1877-1944) in Nice, France on April 16, 1903. They would have seven children, all boys, two of whom died as infants. He was a graduate of the University of Kiev. Afterward he entered the Imperial Ministry of Agriculture eventually becoming a Director of one of its departments in 1909. He was appointed Assistant Minister of Agriculture in 1912. In 1915, during the First World War he was appointed Minister of Education. He held that position until 1916. As a result of the Bolshevik Revolution, Ignatieff and his family fled to France and later to England. (It has been stated that The Count had 25,000 (1919) British Pounds waiting for he and his family outside of Russia when they fled - a small fortune by today's standards) In 1925, the family emigrated to Canada, and settled permanently three years later in Upper Melbourne in Quebec where he died August 12, 1945. One of the Ignatieff's sons, George, was a prominent Canadian diplomat. One of his grandsons, Michael Ignatieff, is an author, former Harvard professor, a Canadian Member of Parliament since 2006 and leader of the Liberal Party of Canada since May 2009. Michaels's father, George Ignatieff, was born in Saint Petersburg, Russian Empire, the youngest of five sons, to a distinguished Russian family. His mother was Princess Natalia Nikolayevna Meshcherskaya and his father was Count Paul Ignatieff, a close advisor to Tsar Nicholas II serving as his last Minister of Education. In 1918, the year after the Russian Revolution, Count Ignatieff was imprisoned, but his release was negotiated by sympathetic supporters. The family fled to France, and later moved to Canada. Four conclusions: 1. Michael's grandfather was hardly 'threadbare' like the other starving masses of immigrants when he arrived in Canada. 2. Upon escaping Russia, The Count, the 24th Education Minister of the Russian Empire, spent huge amounts of money in educating at least one of his children, if not all. 3. Had the Russian Revolution not occured and Michael's family had stayed in Russia, Michael would be a hereditary 'Count'. 4. If our hearts keep beating, none of us can avoid becoming senior citizens.

According to the Canadian Association for Retired People, 460,000, or 10% of today’s Canadian seniors, have or are currently suffering from elder abuse.

Since we’ll all become seniors, shouldn’t everybody be demanding to know what our smiling candidates, their parties and leaders are planning to do to protect us against the threat of abuse in our later years?

HOSNI MUBARAK IS "A DEAD MAN WALKING". TODAY IS "THE DAY"

Yesterday, Egypt's Mubarak lost the support of his military. They had said that they side with the democratic aspirations of their country's thousands and thousands of street demonstrators and will not fire on their own people.

Mubarak's torturous local police had already abandoned ship and gone home days ago.

As a result, dictator Mubarak has no base left to maintain power in the Land of the Pharaohs.
Technically, he is "a dead man walking".

One would think that the brain-trust inside Hillary Clinton's State Department would have had projections and option packages already figured out in the eventuality that the 82-year old Mubarak is taken out of the picture. No doubt, they do and have had them for a long time.

Today, Tuesday, February 1, 2011, is the day when we will either witness the resolve and mettle of US Prez, Barack Obama is an out-reaching support and siding with Egypt's people or, heaven help us.

Where there has not been even a trickle of anti-US or anti-Iraeli sentiment in the demonstrations, we can expect the infiltration of Egypt's leaderless, populace movement by the banned Muslim Brotherhood with their Hamas connection.

From Islam's activated mullah's and mosques, travelling through Egypt's Muslim military, down to the street level, the message will be clear and simple: "The USA is 'all talk' and continuing to support Mubarak, not us, 80-million, Egyptian people".

Overnight, we will begin to witness US flags and effigies of Obama being burnt in the streets of Egypt. US embassy and consulates will come under fire. The Muslim Brotherhood will have successfully hijacked and given leadership to the populace movement.

Avoiding realities and State Department recommendations, Obama will have successfully created another Islamic, terroristic, basket case.

If Israel thought that they had problems with their Muslim neighbours in the past, their worst nightmares would be about to begin.

Faced with "a dead man walking", unless the USA's Obama comes out today with immediate, full and unequivocal support for the Egyptian people, the results of the transition happening in the country may not be a pleasant ones.

In a smaller way, the same goes for Canada's Harper, the UK's Cameron and the rest of the free world's leaders.

Today is 'the day', boys.

Show your courage, vision and common sense.

Don't fumble it.

The proud, 26th President of the United States (1901 to 1909), Teddy Roosevelt's foreign policy style was to "Speak softly and carry a big stick".

My, my, how times have changed for today's greatest and only remaining 'superpower'.

Today, as a cowering, 44th President of the United States (2009 - ), Barack Obama's foreign policy style appears to be "Speak softly, bow deeply and apologize often".

Either, "times have changed" or the USA needs another 'Roosevelt'.

A CANADIAN ‘WORKFORCE CRISIS?’

Is there something wrong with these optics?

Every year, Canadian birthrates fail to produce enough workers to maintain Canada's future, labour needs.

Every year, Canadian governments scour the planet for replacement workers.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of mature, healthy and productive Canadian workers are put ‘out to pasture’.

Every year, thousands and thousands of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled people immigrate to Canada to fill Canada's future, labour gap.

Every year, billions of taxpayer’s dollars are spent on resettlement, language and cultural training, education and skill development, housing, assistance payments and hundreds of Canada ’s social agencies.

Every day, following over forty years of productive work, many of Canada ’s experienced, competent and acclimatized citizens are missing a sense of personal value, contribution, productivty, interaction and a daily schedule that only comes from ‘going to work’.

Every day, these citizens are here, ready, willing and available for work, at no cost whatsoever, but for one reason, ‘age’.

Even though today's Canadians are living far longer their forefathers, (1910: 50+ years, 2010: close to 80 years) and mandatory retirement laws have been abolished in seven of Canada ’s thirteen, geographical jurisdictions, employer’s attitudes have not.
In most employer's thinking, "65' equals retirement", whether employees wish it or not.

Strange, isn’t it?

While Canadian employers cry and beg for workers, they terminate some of their best.
Many of Canada’s “60-plus” workers face major difficulties in being considered for contracting or employment. They are the older 'Zoomers' of the country, a phrase coined to describe Canada's “45-plus” generations. (‘Boomers’ + ‘Zip’ = “Zoomers”)
Employers should be encouraged to boost their bottom-line profits with fully-trained, tried, tested and true, 'Zoomers'.

Definitely, we should be questioning the ‘short-sightedness’ in the thinking of Canadian governments in why, at next to no expense, they are not actively promoting employment from this pot of competent, fully-experienced, 'Zoomer gold'.

Conclusions:

1. Canadian governments will continue to search and steal ‘the best’ from impoverished countries that so desperately need to keep ‘their best’ at home.

2. The long term, direct result of this prolonged draining, is that ‘have-not’ countries will remain ‘have-nots’ and be forced to rely on Canadian taxpayer’s foreign aid, seemingly forever.

3. The solid experience, proven credentials, culture and language skills, productive backgrounds and strong ‘work ethics’ of many of Canada’s 'Zoomers' will continue to be put ‘out to pasture’. For some, this means that many of these workers, movers and shakers are sentenced to live at poverty levels for the next 15 to 20 years of their lives while they still have so much to contribute.

What a totally-needless loss.

Never ever think that the days of Big Brother not censoring what you see, hear and read are gone.

Today's example is a banning from any air-play of a 1980's quasi-hit song, "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straights, because of a supposed, 'homophobic slur', hold your chair, in their using of the word "faggot".

This morning, on CBC-TV, the Canadian Broadcast Standard Council's Chairman, Ron Cohen, explained how the ban occured. Apparently, the CBSC 'beacon of morality' does not dig for profanity or anti-social material. It can only judge and rule on an actual complaint be it "one, ten or a hundred and fifty" as Ron put it.

I would judge that the esteemed 'Council' can also dismiss a complaint as being "frivilous, irrelevant and not deserving' of any consideration in today's Canada.

This did not happen here.

With the word "faggot' in the lyrics of "Money For Nothing", the Council found grounds for banning this Dire Straights song forever from Canada's holier-than-thou air waves.

Compared to today's 'rap' of 'f---ing' this, doing that or whatever to your mother, sister, dog or cat, plus 'killing the cops', etc., Money for Nothing's now-banned lyrics rate, at best. mild or next-to-zero.

I wonder how much Cohen and the Council's six-member board get paid to sit around reviewing and banning such 'nothing' by today's standards, 'their standards' since they make them up?

Apparently this arm of Big Brother doesn't like the word 'faggot', a word still jokingly used be members of our gay community.

SIDEBAR: I wonder if I lodged a complaint to the CBSC about the CBSC being 'obscene' and 'out-of-touch' in it's considerations and judgements in today's society, would it ban itself?

MASS SHOOTINGS IN TUCSON, ARIZONA

Last week, twenty people were shot in a shooting spreee on a parking lot in Arizona. Six died. A true tragedy.

The 22-year old man who had shot them was an obvious deranged, ‘nut case’. The story should have ended there, but it certainly didn’t.

From the day of the shooting and on, ‘talking heads’ analyzed, dissected, spoke and wrote about every possible angle that could have played into creating this catastrophe.

What triggered the shooter to do such a crime?

The fighting words of politicians, a lack of gun control, the ease to purchase a semi-automatic rifle, a lack of background checks, safety nets for aggressive children, kid's 'toy guns', overly-hot talk shows, a society of violence and decay, the US ‘Tea Party’, flaky Sarah Pallin, the lack of reporting ‘early signs’ of violence in individuals, etc. The list was virtually endless.

For sure, each, every and all ‘placings of blame’ rose to the surface and were used.

I had even heard one ‘talking head’ yapping about the possibilities that genetics, as in ‘chromosomes’, had created such a monster.

Whoa. Whoa.

Could it be that the 22 year old was nothing, more or less, than ‘a simple, deranged, nut case’ who had gone over-the-edge for reasons that only he would know?

I recognize that that is not what you want to hear if you are filling air-time or selling newspapers, but that is what had happened, ‘triggers’ or ‘no triggers’.

It is that “the freedom of speech, or of the press” that would have guaranteed an eventual US Supreme Court hearing for Assange if he had been charged with anything close to WikiLeaks itself.

THREE YEARS TO TRAIN AFGHAN SOLDIERS?

As Canada's Harper government commits to keeping Canadian troopers in the war in Afghanistan for three more years to train the country's military and police, here's one, simple, stupid question that nobody has asked:

Why will it take three years of training to put together a local army in Afghanistan ?

In wartime, it has never taken 'three years' to train and prepare an army to fight an enemy. If so, in the 1930's and 40's, NATO's soldiers would never have been ready in time to face Hitler’s forces- and we would all be speaking 'German'.

In Canada’s army of today, the basic training of recruits takes 13-weeks with another 13 to 18 weeks for a specialization in a trade. The total is, give or take, of around six-plus months.

That's not 'three years'.

According to "United States Army Basic Training Operating Instructions", the final, "Phase III” of basic training is even shorter, It "begins at the start of the seventh week and continues to the end of "the ninth week" of training, or upon completion of Phase II until graduation.

That's 'nine weeks', before any trade specializations, not ‘three years’.

Why will it take ‘three years’ or maybe even longer, to train Afghans to defend their country against insurgents?

Nobody has ever asked.

In January of 2010, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper had said: “We will continue to maintain humanitarian and development missions, as well as important diplomatic activity in Afghanistan. But we will not be undertaking any activities that require any kind of military presence, 'other than the odd guard guarding an embassy.”

“I think the reality is that all actors over the past few years have been downgrading their expectations of what can be achieved in Afghanistan” Harper said.

Not being a stupid politician who would paint himself into a corner, Harper had added, “but it is still important that we have a viable, functioning state in Afghanistan that has some acceptable democratic and rule of law norms. If we don’t, we run the serious risk of returning in Afghanistan to what we had before.

"No matter what differences people have on the mission, everybody agrees that the mission has the purpose to ensure that Afghanistan does not return to being a failed state that is an incubator of terrorism.”

Harper had added 'an impossible' for any activities by foreigners (invaders) in Afghanistan. “We will not be undertaking any kind of activity that requires a significant military force protection, so it will become a strictly civilian mission".

Apparently, Prime Minister Harper's promise, to leave only "the odd guard guarding an embassy" has changed over the past 10-months.

Over the last two days, a test trial balloon has be flown. It would leave 1,000 Canadian troopers in Afghanistan to train the country’s police and military. On graduation, in this backward, corrupt cesspool, as to 'who' would be controlling and directing them against 'who', is anybody's guess. But, be assured that, during the daytime, Canadians will pay them and train them well.

Likewise, you can be semi-assured that at nightfall, many of the trainees will be working 'their second jobs' with the insurgents, but that's another story

With a Machiavellian, political kiss of death, Harper, the master of strategy, has maneuvered and labeled the naive and gullible Bob Rae, foreign affairs critic for Canada’s Liberal Party, with originating the idea. Even better, Rae loves the media adulation with 'the Rae alternative'.

Meanwhile, the Liberal's wretchedly hapless and hopeless party leader, Michael Ignatieff, has been left on the sidelines in the ashes, playing second fiddle to his former, party leadership rival, exactly where Harper wants to keep him.

So, Mr.and Mrs. Canada, surprise, surprise.

After June of 2011, the body bags of Canadian soldiers will still continue traveling down the 401’s 'Highway of Heros' and well into the foreseeable future.

Having the power to direct and use the foreign-based lives of Canada’s proud, military men and women as local, political tools to achieve 'your own, political ends', can have it’s advantages, can't it?

1/ He needs to cut out the crap and show that he is serious about leading the country.

If all things go well for Omar Khadr, Canadians may soon be able to welcome home, as a respected, forensic psychiatrist, Prof. Dr Michael Welnar, had testified as “an unrepentant, dangerous, Islamic extremist who has been ‘marinated in the radical jihadism' at Guantanamo”, back to the loving arms of his mom and sister’s home in Scarborough, Ontario.

Dr.Welnar had further descibed Khadr as being "devout, angry and identifies with his family, which is radical and jihadist".

THE BIGGEST STORY IN TORONTO’S 2010 MUNICIPAL ELECTION

The biggest story in Toronto’s 2010 municipal election was not Rob Ford being elected as mayor. It was the monumental disservice to the public by portions of Toronto’s medIa.

Up to the final voting results, Toronto’s left-wing-slanted, broadcast media had mislead and misdirected viewers by telling them that the Ford-Smitherman race was ‘neck ‘n neck’.

Leading up to 'the count', even though reported by one of their own, this media sector had conveniently set aside the final EKOS poll that had been released a few days earlier.

EKOS had shown an 8.4% spread in favour of Rob Ford.
“43.9 per cent of respondents said they would support Ford, while 35.6 per cent said they would vote for Smitherman”.

The final results had proven to be even better for Rob Ford with 47.1% of voters (383,501) supporting him while Smitherman held at 35.6% (289,832), an '11.5% spread'.

If anything, the relentlessly pounding out of “a neck ‘n neck race”, combined with snide, off-hand, on-air comments and remarks about Ford, had totally boomeranged. A grassroots ‘tea party’ had occurred.

In the aftermath, much of Toronto’s sour-graped, broadcast media have switched into a Doomsday mode, pitching a line that the 'stop-the-gravy-train' Ford will not be able to perform or deliver his promises.

I suppose that they’ll never give up or grow up to accept Bob Dylan’s famous line from a different era and context, "the times they are a-changin' ".

In the last, waning hours of Toronto’s mayoralty campaign, homophobic signs with the above message, appeared along Danforth Avenue, near Victoria Park and radio ads began running on the 'Canadian Tamil Broadcasting Corporation' radio station and appeared online.

The ads were targeted towards Toronto’s ‘unenlightened’ immigrant populations whose religious (Muslim) and cultural ‘value systems’ do not include or embrace ‘homosexuality’ as being acceptable. In some of their home countries, they go so far as stoning ‘gays’ to death.

Funny, isn’t it?

Could George Smitherman’s previous, election ‘strength’ in his geographically-narrow, provincial riding of ‘Toronto Centre’ become his foremost ‘weakness’ when spread completely across Toronto's multicultural city.

Smitherman’s past provincial riding, election victories in 1999, 2003 and 2007 were, for most part, through the overwhelming support from his most-natural constituency, the solid, voting-block of ‘Toronto’s gays’.

Yesterday, with no time or forum in which to respond, George’s 'same-sex marriage' to Christopher Peloso, instantly became a potential, unpredicted nightmare. He may have never dreamed about this when planning to face ballot boxes across today’s 'complete Toronto' from his narrow, 'gay-voting fortress'.

Even if Smitherman’s lifestyle had been raised earlier, which it respectfully was not by any candidate, how could George have possibly handled it against the ‘belief systems’ of unenlightened, homophobic Torontonians?

If this past weekend’s signs and radio spots had appeared earlier in the campaign, would Torontonians have been witnessing major fights between the polls two, campaign leaders, Rob Ford vs. Joe Pantalone, Rob Ford vs. Rocco Rossi, Rob Ford vs. Sarah Thomson, Rob Ford vs. Adam Giambrone or Rob Ford vs. Giorgio Mammoliti?

One wonders.

Tonight’s election results may tell a lot.

Will Ford's "neck 'n neck", but still polled 'lead' over Smitherman be translated into a major victory for the penny-pinching, "end the gravy train", Councilor from Etobicoke through rejections of George by the 'last-minute-reminded, Muslim community'?

After two life sentences were given to Col. Russell Williams of CFB Trenton, Andy Lloyd, brother of murdered Jessica Lloyd said, “So long as he dies in jail I'm happy".

Mr. Lloyd should not be overly “happy”.

Williams was not sentenced to spending ‘the rest of his life’ or 'two' in prison. He received two, 25-year sentences to be served ‘concurrently’. This means that Williams, now 47, can apply for parole at 72 years of age.

This is one heck of lot different from having two, 25-year sentences to be served ‘consecutively’ where parole would not be available until he reaches 97.

Canada’s weak-kneed, milquetoast laws and handcuffed, judicial system have rewarded this perverted, murderous animal a ‘glimmer of hope’, which murdered Jessica Lloyd and Marie-France Comeau were not given. Even as slight as it may seem to be today, Williams may not die in prison.

As the police-integrator of confessed-murderer Russell Williams was open to produce a map to locate the terrorized, raped and suffocated body of a victim, I am equally open to produce a rope that would neatly fit around Williams’ neck, before a trap door opens below.

To even ‘think’ that Russell Williams has been given the slightest ‘glimmer of hope’ to apply for ‘parole’ at 72, is a judicial atrocity.

EDITOR: Of interest, it was just announced on CBC TV that all physical evidence against Williams will now 'be destroyed'. That'll cancel any potential, other 'unknown' murder cases or break and enters against the animal if he is ever released on parole.

CANADA LOOSES SEAT AT THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL

For the first time in it’s history, Canada was not elected to sit as a non-permanent member of the UN’s Security Council even though Canada was reported to be this 3rd-world, debating society’s ‘5th largest contributor’.

Now, it’s ‘blame-game’ time.

Canada’s Conservative-Harper government initially attributed this failure to the previous words of the Leader of the Opposition, the polled, personally ‘low ranking’, the Liberal’s second-in-a-row, un-saleable professor, Michael Grant Ignatieff.

While ‘Iggy’ may have done his job as ‘opposition’ and questioned Harper’s foreign policies, this flimsy excuse ‘just didn’t have legs’, no matter how much the Conservative’s talking heads pumped it out. There was a second and third shoe to drop.

The next day, out came information which may have been closer to the truth.

The Harper government had shifted it focus and foreign aid to Central and South America to the detriment and loss of Africa.
With no gratitude for the past decades of filling corrupt, African leaders’ Swiss bank accounts; the African countries appeared to be together in voting against Canada.
This was joined by the suspicion of secret, ‘block voting’ by the European Union for one of their own, Portugal or Germany.

In the Middle East, Canada’s backing of Israel turned-off votes from its freedom-loving, Muslim paradises. This was followed up with their (supposed) criticism for Canada not getting an alleged child-terrorist and killer of a US medic out of Gitmo.

On this latter excuse, I’ve got 'a slight problem'. It is coming from countries where short-justice, uncivilized lashings, stonings-to-death and the chopping off or hands is still practiced.

Yesterday, another ‘closer to the truth’ was updated with blame falling on Canada’s largest trading partner, the USA and their ‘lack of lobbying’ for their northern neighbour. Apparently, the Obama administration had felt the Canada’s election to the Security Council was ‘in the bag’ and done nothing to make it happen.

What’s next?

The Harper Conservative government is quickly running out of threads to explain this monumental, historic failure.

No matter what is the next ‘blame installment’ is thought up, VOTP’s initial ‘bull-in-a-china-shop’ approach would be to immediately and grossly reduce contributions to the UN and cut off all foreign and humanitarian aid to anything ‘African’. The closure of all of Canada’s military bases in Europe would be next in line, reducing the EU’s defences against the potential of a rising of the Russian Bear.

As for the new, USA whipping boy, a polite, ‘we also thought that we had it in the bag’ would be sufficient.

More realistically and back to Earth, the Harper government should face ‘the dead-on truth’, do an internal self-assessment and discover where the true ‘blame’ falls.

If anything, Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister and all of his silly servants, who handled the Security Council campaign file, should be sent to Purgatory to contemplate their politically-inept misjudgments and sins.

The final buck stops with Canada’s Foreign Affairs incompetencies, plus those of their ‘ultimate boss’, who led Canada to lose its historic, customary seat on the UN Security Council.

History will not be recording that it was Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon or some departmental ‘sillies’ who had failed in winning the position, history will write that it was ‘the Harper Government’ who accomplished this ‘near-impossible feat’.

Nostalgic and reminiscent of 'the draft dodgers' of the late 60’s and early 70’s, AWOLs are being embraced by the Canadian sons and daughter of that era’s anti-nuke, commie-duped peaceniks. The only problem in optics is that these new groups of Americans are 180 degrees different for yesteryears.

1/ They were not drafted directly out of the graduation classes from the 60’s high schools of the United States.

2/ They did not receive draft notices, since there is no more ‘military draft’ in the USA.

3/ Of their own 'free will', these ‘war resisters’ had signed up, sworn allegiance and joined the USA's military forces with a commitment to kill or be killed in the name of 'freedom', the United States of America and to be cannon fodder for it's Military-Industrial-Complex.

There is one hell of a difference between yesterday’s ‘draft dodgers’ who had no choice and today’s ‘war resisters’ who had freely applied for the job.

One question should be asked of each ‘resister’: “Did you not sign a term contact with the US military to kill or be killed”?

Since the answer can only be a resounding ‘yes’, “go home and complete your commitment. Canada does not need people who apply for jobs and then quit, breaking contractual obligations that were freely agreed upon”.

As with our Canadian military forces' men and women, if you never pictured yourself ending up in a body bag, then you should never have joined. Sorry to tell you but 'the odd, body bag' goes with the job and territory that both of you 'freely' joined.

Wit due respect for Canada’s largest trading partner, with this group of contract-breakers, ‘Yankee, Go Home’. This is not the 1960’s.

Where science has failed, it looks as if McDonald's has discovered the secret to eternal life?

Now you can “have a break today” and tomorrow and next week and next month, even a half a year from now, all with ‘the same’ burger and chips.

Pictures released this week show absolutely no decompostion of a 'Happy Meal', even after sitting for over 180-days. It is exactly the same as when it was purchase.

Wow, what possibilities.

Since 'we are what we eat', if we stick to a diet, totally of 'Happy Meals', we may be able to never age and live forever just like this Happy Meal.

What a golden opportunity for the marketing-slogan geniuses at McDonalds. I can hear it now. “Have a break today and live forever”.

There is the added bonus that, unlike today's religions which require 'belief', McDonald's promise has actual, photographic proof.

Soon, across the entire world, children could be badgering and begging, “Mommy, take me to McDonalds. I never want to ever get old and look like you”.

If marketed well, the ‘golden arches’ could become the main symbol of the next religion for ‘eternal life’, much like ‘The Cross’ is to Christians.

If sold exceedingly well to today’s world, Ray Croc and the two McDonald brothers could be revered as ‘the second comings’ of Moses, Jesus and Mohammed.

Under the guidance and diets of the golden arches, religious strife, conflict and terrorism would cease.

In the names of ‘world peace’, ‘eternal tranquility’, 'churches without pedophiles' and only 'one happy clown' named Ronald, have a break today with 'a Happy Meal' and many, many, many more.

Special 'thanks' should go to 'our protectors', the federal, health regulators of Canada and the United States, for allowing McDonalds to create and sell such 'wonderful, safe and life-extending products' for ingestion by the public.

May Croc and the McDonald brothers blessings fall upon all of us.

"GETTING RID OF BUDGETS" (TAXPAYER'S MONEY)

Each federal budget reminds me of the annual, ‘almost-ritualized’, spending frenzy of Canadian taxpayer’s dollars. This takes place at the end of each fiscal year by the taxpayer’s “Government of Canada’s civil service’” “Spend, spend, spend” becomes each civil servant manager’s focus.

The reason for the ‘shell-out’ is based on the misguided advancement criteria for each public service manager’ salary and designation, They are enhanced with every boost in his/her ‘signing authority’. “The more one can sign for, the more are the rewards”. The mechanism appears to be ‘the fastest way’ to advance up the ranks of the civil service.

Add the “getting rid of budgets” (taxpayer’s money) to support renowned, civil service ‘empire-building’ and you have a volatile model that continues to suck Canadian taxpayers dry.

Elected representatives turn ‘blind eyes’ on the almost-incestuous, budget-draining practice.
Never wishing to ruffle the feathers of the civil service, they become ‘part of the problem’, definitely not ‘the solution’.

For both, getting rid of budgets” appears as an annual, monetary rape and reckless squandering of taxpayers’ money. But nobody has ever said anything. Shamefully, it is viewed as being ‘business as usual’.

Some years ago, a buddy and retiring, senior civil service manager, ‘Gil’, explained the civil service mindset to me. It goes this way: Once a government budget has been approved and allocated, each civil servant manager considers that “it belongs to him or she”, “to do with it what they may”. This includes spending every last cent, even if estimated programmes are cancelled, or interim adjustments and reductions did not require it.

My retiring pal further explained that departmental estimates, delivered to politicians, are ‘naturally inflated’ to protect the validity of the projections of civil service managers. “We would never wish to be looking stupid, be embarrassed and have to go back for interim funding”.

Gil added: “Politicians and governments come and go. They are only momentary. We are here forever. We take care of ourselves”.

Just how bad for taxpayers is ‘getting rid of budgets’?

One year, in the late 1970’s, the twelve monthly figures of the annual budget of the USA’s federal government came to light. The monthly figures demonstrated that spending was ‘six-times higher’ during the last month of their fiscal year than on the average of the previous eleven. Since then, the USA has stopped releasing these monthly numbers. At that time, monthly figures for the Canadian government were not available as they still remain today.

With civil servants being ‘civil servants’, systems being ‘systems, coupled with my personal experiences, reaching the conclusion is that each government’s “servants” and ‘systems’ operate in much the same way, is not difficult to reach.

Today, facing this year’s $50+ Billion deficit, to add to Canada’s $500 Billion debt, one would think that, of all governments, Harper’s business-minded ‘conservatives’ would have monthly expenditure figures readily available. Every private sector business does. They are vital in running any business, private or public.

Think again.

They don’t.

Statistics Canada does not possess the monthly figures and the Ministry of Finance either does not, will not or can not respond to requests for them. Does it take a genious to figure out what they would expose and why they won't?

So, here we are in March, 2010 with Finance Minister Jim Flaherty wincing over a $50+ Billion deficit and doing a cross-country, selling tour of his Harper government’s budget.

If any politician had any control over their civil servants, dealing with a deficit and constantly reducing Canada’s accumulated ($500 Billion) debt would be bloodless and easy. But, maybe that is it. It is too obvious and too simple. It would mean having a ‘responsible government’ who, for the taxpayers, had the guts to take control and end the yearly, repugnant, ‘getting-rid-of-budget’ dance. It would also mean ‘a major change’ to the career pathways, rankings and rewards of the civil service.

The retiring, civil servant manager ‘Gil’ had added, “We are untouchable. Just keep paying your taxes. You can never change it.”

If we could “change it” and if the 6-times spending figure is applicable today and not larger, Canada’s yearly, federal expenditure of taxpayer’s money could be reduced by 29% without any programme cancellations, provincial transfer reductions, salary reductions, freezes, additional taxes, etc.

To put this into perspective, for every $100 Billion in current federal spending, 29 Billion, Canadian taxpayer dollars would not be blown away on ’getting-rid-of-budgets.

In February and March of next year, the ritualized, spending frenzy of getting rid of Canadian taxpayer’s dollars will continue.

Meanwhile, by doing nothing, fellow Canadians should stand proud, be smiling and happy for loading much of their Liberal of Conservative government’s yearly deficits and gross debt on their children, grandchildren and their babies.

It not, they should demand that monthly expenditure figures be released by their Ministry of Finance, Stats Canada and, after vomiting, raise hell.

THANKS TO HARPER'S 'CONSERVATIVE PARTY', CANADA'S 'LONG GUN REGISTRY' REMAINS INTACT

The headline is 100% correct.

VOPT saw the actual voting, 'live' on CPAC.

On Wednesday evening, a vote on a committee motion, defeated the carrying out of a vote on the the main motion that could have sunk the muti-billion dollar, 'long gun registry', a monumental boondoggle of waste.

Here's a fact not reported in our asleep-at-the-switch, non-observant, Canadian media, (another reason why we need 'the alternative voice' of a SUN TV NEWS CHANNEL) ...

When the voting on the pre-motion was taking place, two, three or more Conservative Party MPs, at the farthest end from the Speaker's Chair, remained seated, chatting and not voting.

MacLeans mag later reported "the House of Commons has approved a motion of the public safety committee to defeat Bill C-391, by a margin of 153 to 151".

Why didn't they stand up and vote?

If Harper's end-of-row MPs had voted, they could have forced a vote on the main 'long gun registry' motion. The result could have been that Harper would have risked winning the battle, but losing the war, the strategy and reason of why he had his MPs raise the gun registry issue in the first place.

Getting to that final vote was not in 'the design'.

Think "Machiavellianism" - "the use of cunning and deceitful tactics in politics", avoiding the battle, but winning the war".
The Italian philosopher, famous for 'The Prince', could not have pulled it off any better than 'The King' of Canadian politics.

As a result the unprepared Opposition Parties were 'total euchred and crushed' into delivering most of Rural Canada's voters to Harper's Conservatives in the next election.

As a further result, you can be assured that this pre-defeat of the bill by the Oppostion parties, will be a major, campaign plank in the CP's next election.

Balancing Canada's longest, minority government in Canadian history, with this latest, 'sucker trick', love him, like him or hate him, one must take his or her hat off to the greatest, political strategist that Canada has seen in our time, 'Stephen Harper'.

Following the vote, the Liberal's 'Iggy' and the NPD's 'Smilin' Jack' were 'few on words'with little to say.

No wonder, eh?

They both had immediately realized that, even though they didn't have the sitting numbers of MPs to pass the earlier motion, they had actually won it.

While they had won 'the battle', they must have also realized that they had been 'royally euchred' by a mastermind and lost 'the war', giving Rural Canada to the Conservatives in the next election.

(It has been said that “when the U.S. catches a cold, Canada gets pneumonia”. Because this has repeatedly happened in the past, VOTP takes more than a ‘passing interest’ in the USA and its politics.)

On Tuesday, The Wall Street Journal released an op-ed, “The Obama Economy” with a question.

“Never before has government spent so much and intervened so directly in credit allocation to spur growth, yet the results have been mediocre at best. In return for adding nearly $3 trillion in federal debt in two years, we still have 14.9 million unemployed.
What happened?”

The simple answer is before their eyes and the eyes of all Americans.

US citizens had elected the most, left-wing President in the history of their United States of America with a huge debt to organized labour for getting him the job.

Obama had directed a large part of the American taxpayer’s borrowed, stimulus money to non-growth, silly servant jobs vs to the powerhouse of all job creation, the capitalistic, free enterprise, private sector where all jobs and taxable growths happen.

The dough that Prez Lefty had given to the banks, without stringent conditions, had only delivered them with capital to buy 'US debt' through the guarantees in US government bond issues, minimizing their risk factors to next to zero.

What happened?

In simple terms, that happened.

A '9/11 MOSQUE' UPDATE

The moderate imam, Feisal Abdul Rauf, the man behind building “Cordoba House”, a mosque a few blocks from New York City’s 9/11 terrorist site,attempted to do some soft-selling as he appeared tonight on CNN’s ‘Larry King Live”.

Instead of the lax, no-confrontational, kissy-kissy Larry, the imam faced the attack and wrath of 71% of polled Americans, who disagree with the location of the mosque, through a hard-hitting, Soledad O'Brien.

Under attack by this jugular-searching lady, in the back of this moderate Imam’s mind, he must have had one thought must have crossed his mind.
‘Soledad, you are fortunate that you are in America, woman. In Islamic countries under Shania Law, for what you are putting this imam through, you would be lashed 90 or more times, then half-buried and stoned to death by my Muslim brothers and sisters”.

If the building of the 9/11 mosque, does not happen, the Imam stated that his concerns are centered on US ‘national security’ and the abroad killings of Americans by his Muslim brothers.

“Anger will explode in the Muslim world” warned this moderate, Muslim leader.

These were hardly ‘concerns’. These were in-your-face ‘threats’ to all opposition based on a ‘we build it or you suffer the consequences’.

In the end, the Imam may not be able to build the mosque anyway.
One by one, New York’s trade unions are refusing to supply licensed tradesmen and qualified workers to erect it, irrelevant if it is a Muslim centre or, in a change to soften opposition, a multi-faith centre as the Imam referred to it yesterday and tonight.

(It will be interesting to see if this PR push moves Americans opinions from 71% being in opposition to the building of the mosque.)

There are some strange things going on in television land these days.
We have Glenn Beck and his MLK rally.
We have Sarah Palin.
We have a mosque going up on the 9-11 site.
We have the issue of Obama’s nationality.
We have the Tea Party.

To call Beck a nobody is giving him too much credit.

Sarah Palin is a beautiful exciting woman but so is Katy Perry and she can sing.

The Tea Party is not a party. It is not a movement.
It is not an anything.
It is a name which has been assigned to a concept; like a black hole. Nobody knows what the hell it is but everyone believes in it.

There is no mosque going up on the WTC site. Muslims don’t want one. Honkeys don’t want one. Nobody wants one. There isn’t going to be one.
As for Obama’s nationality what does it matter?
The country is run by people in China and Israel.
Nobody seems to mind that.

This is all a massive game. A distraction, if you will, to divert your attention from things that are really important.
What are those things?
Who the hell knows.
Nobody’s talking about them.

It could be 'the real state of the economy'.
It could be 'the 'endless war for endless peace'.
It could be 'the outsourcing of jobs'.
It could be 'the collapse of the American empire'.

Mayoralty candidate and polling forerunner, Rob Ford, stated a responsible ‘obvious’, which developed into ‘a bombshell’ on Toronto’s CP24 television debate last night.

Rob said, “right now we can't even deal with the 2.5 million people in this city. I think it is more important to take care of people now before we start bringing in more people. There's going to be a million more people, according to the official plan (which I did not support) over the next ten years coming into the city”.

Today, outside of city hall, with the other candidates circling like vultures, Rob added, “Until we get our fiscal house in order (we can’t) welcome more people. Right now we’re not in any shape to welcome people … There’s 60,000 people trying to get into affordable housing … How about all these new people coming in? They’re going to be asking to get into affordable housing, too. So the waiting list now, could it go up to 200,000 people if we bring in a million people”?

Today’s initial, public opinions appear that the ‘spend, spend, ‘tax ‘n spend’ vultures got it all wrong. If anything, Rob’s comment is drawing even more municipal taxpayers, owners or renters, to support his candidacy.

I strongly suspect that these opinions are coming from Torontonians whose taxes are ballooning and those who spend part of their days stopped and sitting in their cars on the clogged, Don Valley Parking Lot or the QEW.

In 24-hours, the vultures’ attacks on Rob’s statements are appearing to be boomeranging on them.

Advice to the vultures: “Cut your losses. Shut up on this issue. Every time that you open your yap, you are losing further ground and support”.

Here’s an interesting opinion on New York’s now-notorious, 'mosque building' in a six-minute clip from the British writer and comedian, Pat Condell.

Some have described Condell’s lonely youtube, “No mosque at Ground Zero”, as “pure truth and utterly brilliant”.

It is worth watching.

Wishing to keep ‘balance’ on VOTP, here’s a nine-minute youtube from that other side: “No mosque at Ground Zero part 2” before hundreds or a thousand people.

For those who put their quarter and dollars in their pots at Christmas, it describes the Salvation Army as being ‘terrorists’. Other points-of-view are also most interesting.

Stephen: Yeah, Vic. I thought that one up early to prepare the lefty, media’s soft, humanitarian, bleeding-heart side for a good pumping.

Faced with this potential problem, I had even earlier planned for our media people to deliver our humanitarian plans on how we were going to receive the ship’s illegal migrants when they hit our shores.

In preparation, Tamil-speaking translators, doctors, nurses, even Tamil food-preparing cooks were transported to, well-paid, housed and fed in Vancouver from as far away as Toronto.

Vic: Sir, as your former President of the Treasury Board, from what budget did you find the funding for this?

Stephen: Oh, Vic, several of them.

Initially, we are using the taxpayers's coast guard and a piece of the taxpayer's and Pete Mackay’s ‘Department of National Defense’s emergency funding along with several others, like the taxpayer's Ministry of Immigration, etc. It certainly isn't free.

Once they landed, in order to put up 'the façade' of actual screening these un-passported, lying, cheating, que-jumping pieces of scum, I planned the initial and temporarily housing of them at one of our secured, military bases in B.C.. There they would only have to say that magic word ‘refugee’ and they fall would fall under the ‘1951 UN Refugee Convention’

Being the responsible man that he is, Peter had asked where this surprise ‘cost to Canadian taxpayers’ would be recovered from in his DND books.

I told him. “Peter, look and learn to think outside-the-box. You can bury those costs in the budget for our hopeless war in Afghanistan . It’s so minor. Don't worry or think about it.

“Simply increase DND’s ‘book costs’ in the returning of our fallen and blasted-apart soldiers from Afghanistan.. That should easily cover it”.

Vic: But these criminal pieces of human garbage will need travel to the largest settlement of Tamils outside of South Asia, ‘Toronto’.

Stephen: At worst, we’ll cram them in and fly them on our military’s larger aircraft and drop them at Pearson airport for pickup.

At best, Toronto’s 250,000 Tamils will raise funds to get them to Toronto by rail, bus or whatever.

Vic: But, sir, won’t that increase cost to taxpayers with housing, welfare, etc.?

Stephen: Of course it will. Our federal government provides a single refugee with a monthly allowance of $1,890. Each can also rip off an additional $580 in local, social assistance from local and provincial taxpayers for a total of $2,470.

All of this is is occurring while our senior citizen pensioners, after contributing to the growth and development of Canada for 40 years, can only receive a monthly maximum of $1,012 in old age pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement.

Vic: Sir, you mean …

Stephen: Yes, Vic. 175,000 'of age', current,Tamil voters in Toronto could help us greatly in acquiring a majority government.

Vic: But sir, what about our ‘law and order agenda’?

CANADA'S BABY-BOOMER LEGACY

Today's baby boomers leave Canada's current and future generations with debt and dictatorship. During their tenure, they forgot that vigilance is the price of freedom, fiscally and democratically.
Debt

Since Confederation in 1867, until the Liberal Party's Pierre Trudeau took power in April of 1968, Canada's fiscal, 'year ends' kept self canceling each other between small surpluses and small deficits. For all intensive purposes, with the exceptions of wartime, our country had no mentionable 'national debt'.

Pierre's reign had been temporarily interrupted by Joe Clark's Progressive Conservative, 'Burp Government' between June, 1979 to March, 1980, but that was of little or no consequence.

By the time Pierre finally folded his tent in June of 1984, he had created a monumental $250 Billion in national debt, borrowed from both domestic and foreign sources.

Canadians switched parties and switched Prime Ministers in September of 1984 with the election of the P.C.'s Brian Mulroney. By the time of Brian's departure in June of 1993, he had added another $250 Billion to Pierre's fiscal, horror story. Canada had risen above the $500 Billion water mark.
During the reckless Trudeau/Mulroney years, where were recognized and respected voices who said 'stop'?

Where was Mr., Mrs. or Ms. Canada who said ‘stop’?

Where was anybody?

Just think about it. To that point in 1993, over a short 25 of Canada's 125-year history, two Prime Ministers had created 'a half-trillion dollar debt burden' to bequeath to Canada's future generations.

Today, 17-years since the Trudeau-Mulroney drunken-sailor, spending ended, it looks as though the Half-Trillion Dollar debt, with its tens of millions in interest payments, have become a permanent fixture in Canada’a economics.
While that's an amazing phenomena in itself, here is the other shoe to drop in the baby-boomers' legacy.

Dictatorship

In John A. MacDonald's first Canadian government of 1867, from issue-to-issue, up to one third of his MPs would vote against his government's legislation.
Over the next hundred years, while declining in numbers, from time-to-time Government Members had still been joining Opposition MPs to defeat bad bills brought to the House of Commons. They would disagree with impunity and even with 'a respect' would be given to their positions.

That door of freedom and representation was jammed 'permanently shut' with the advent of Pierre Trudeau. His administration began a huge centralization of power in the Prime Minister Office (PMO) with MP's kept on leashes in what they could say and how they would vote.

Mavericks were kicked out of caucuses and removed from party affiliations for daring to speak for their people, vote against or oppose the growing strength of the PMO. To counter this, Opposition Parties also underwent similar changes with edicts from the unelecteds in their Leader's Offices that became 'central thought'.

Brian Mulroney advanced the PMO's control and Chrétien solidified it. Both bounced MPs out of the seats for any indiscretions in following the party-line.
Free men and women would run for Parliament to represent their constituents. But once there, they would quickly recognize that the perques and bonuses in bending and selling out to party-line-control. The largest reason was to stay in their Leader's 'good books'.

If the newbees were thinking about advancements, committee assignments, world travels or a second term shot at receiving fat-cat, fully-indexed pensions, they would require their Leader's signatures on their re-nomination papers for filing with Elections Canada. Otherwise, they would become 'one term', unpensioned losers.

The direct consequence of the 'signature requirement' in the leader-written, Canada Election Act, is that MPs must represent their Leaders' Offices first, foremost and always, not the hopes, dreams and aspirations of their employers, the citizens of Canada.

By the time that Stephen Harper had arrived as PM, top-down dictatorship vs. bottom-up democracy had been in effect for many years. With repeated minority governments, Stephen only hardened the already-existing PMO control over his MPs by using now, long established, 'tools of office'.

On the surface to passing eyes, Stephen's extraordinary tightening looks like the arrival of an all-out dictatorship. In reality, little, if anything had actually changed. The concept of 'a benevolent dictatorship' had been long established starting with Trudeau, 43-years ago. Faced with running a minority government, Stephen’s brand of ruling is only tighter and more blatantly 'in-your-face'.

This shambling and destruction of representation, morals, principles and values found in our legislative model, ‘the mother of all parliaments', Westminster, is likely beyond repair. Sadly, it will probably take the election of a 'not-so-benevolent' dictator to awaken Canadians to recognizing what they had actually inherited from today’s baby boomers who allowed such to occur, ‘all without a word’.

To current and future generations

This legacy comes with "complements" from your parents and grand parents who were not there in guarding the foundations of freedom from debt and dictatorship in Canada.

Now, post baby boomers, the shoes are on your feet.

Wear them well my friends.

THE MUSLIM VEIL IN CANADA

Numberous times, we have been told by Muslim scholars that 'the veil' is not part of the Islamic religion and does not appear in the Koran or elsewhere.

It has been reported on more than a few occasions that the veils and flowing robes have concealed bomb-belted, suicidal terrorists who has infultrated a large group of people and detonated. (Suicide bombers a growing threat in Afghanistan - CBC)

Obviously, seeing the face of a niqab or burka clad person is not enough as Canada's Public Safety Minister, Vic Toews would have you believe.

Prior to flying, short of strip searches, a light, outer body x-raying should be mandatory for all who wear these concealing costumes.

On the ground, Toews should be warning Canadians that, when a niqab or burka appear in a crowd of people, unless they know who is inside, they should keep their distances from these 'walking concealments'. This applies to buses, subways, movie theatres, etc., all places where people congregate.

Toews should also be telling us to ever forget that, in the sacred Name of Allah, exploding Muslim terrorists want to take as many infidels with them as is possible.

So far, although niqab and burka wearing terrorists have only exploded in backward, middle-eastern countries, it's only a matter of time before this murderous practice hits our Canadian shores. There are no 'ifs'.

Since the a bomb-belted niqab and burka is so simple in avoiding detection, you can be assured that it will happen in the future from homegrown or imported terrorists.

We know that. eventually, a niqab and burka will blow up in Canada.

Today, the Pope released new edicts against pedophilic and other sexual crimes by the priests of his Roman Catholic Church.

It was noted that nowhere in his edict were his local Cardinals and Bishops directed to immediately contact local police to report their ‘priestly’ perverts and sexually-twisted criminals, current or from the past.

Are the Pope and his RC Church, which supposedly stand for Christian morals, principles, ethics and values, above the law?

Why would the Pope not immediately be turning over the Vatican’s records of his priestly pedophiles and their accessories who kept their deeds quiet, to local police?

Could it be the Pope may have personally been one of the ‘accessories’ when he allegedly did a cover-up and ‘a move’ when he was ‘Archbishop Joseph Ratzinger' of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, Germany as was reported by TIME Magazine and “other reports”.

I can only suppose that the hard-line, investigating cops of Munich and Freising’s Sexual Crime Units entering the Vatican to question a suspected, ‘criminal accessory’ would not be that great for future, ‘Holy Sees’?

This may explain ‘the missing part’ in Pope’s edict that appears to continue to hold the Pope’s sick, raping and sodomizing, pedophilic priests and their sicker ‘accessories’ above the law.

“Don’t only protect ‘the homeland’; protect your backside”.

While this may make current sense to the Holy See, it is still shameful for The First Pillar of Christianity, The Church of Peter.

ONCE UPON A TIME …

Once upon a time there was a far away Kingdom of Sleaze.

In the Kingdom there was an academic man.

The man was chosen and hired by the King of Sleaze to write 'the terms of reference' for a probe into an ex-king's dubious dealings. This choice appeared strange to more than a few of the Kingdom's subjects because the academic man had once had a job where he reported directly to the same ex-king.

The academic man wrote and wrote. Finally, he produced a paper that would grossly limit the scope of the probe, what it was permitted to look at, consider or recommend. As an example, the funding for the ex-king’s coronation, over thirty years earlier by a bad, foreign man, appeared to be ‘off limits’.

The restricted probe took place and none of the ex-king’s later-immorally-received monies were taken from him. In addition, the ex-king faced no chance of being jailed for receiving multiple bribes or the disrespecting and misusing his previous postion and the trust of his former subjects.

The ex-king walked away as a ruffled, yet still, a very-free man..

The bad, foreign man, who had later and secretly paid off the ex-king for his influence in the Kingdom’s affairs, was chained and banished from the kingdom to be immediately jailed in his distant homeland.

Time passed by and the Kingdom’s subjects had all forgotten what the academic man had done in setting the restraining ‘terms of reference’ that protected the ex-king in the probe, but not the current King who had hired him

As an extra reward to the academic man for his ‘job well done’, the most-appreciative King appointed this most-agreeable, academic man to the Kingdom’s highest office, one of ‘advice and consent’ to the King himself or, in tight, regal challenges and squeezes, the other way around.

Now, the Kingdom’s subjects would be bowing and curtsying to the academic man as he lives his reward for saving the ex-king from much more than simple disgrace.

The moral of this story: "You scratch my back now and, when things calm down, people forget and the time is right, I’ll be back to scratch yours in a big way".

Sadly, there is no “and they lived happily ever after” end to this story, because the King and his Kingdom of Sleaze is not fictional and this not one of 'Grimm's Fairy Tales', only 'a grim observation' of last week's announcement.

3/ The latest projected bill for the 3-day G8/G20 meetings is “$1,200,000,000CDN’ ($1.2Billion).in ‘borrowed Canadian taxpayer’s dollars’.

4/ Many businesses in the ‘secured areas’ are closing during the G20 event.

5/ There will be no government reimbursements for their lost trade or destruction to their street-level properties from riotings.

6/ Several schools and school bus routes are closing during the events.

7/ Six of Ontario Liquor Control Board’s outlets, including its flagship store in Toronto, will be closed.

8/ Item-by-item details and agreements, in a draft of the G8’s 'final' communiqué has already been released, even though the meeting 'has yet to happen'.

9/ There will be no ‘WiFi’ computer connections available for over 4,000 of the world’s media attending 'this façade' in Toronto’s Metro Convention Centre.

At today's estimated leak of "2.5 million gallons per day", almost a billion a year, without a total containment or a complete closing of BP's contaminating hole, what will two and a half more years of Obama's Presidential term mean to Planet Earth ?

With Obama not leading, taking command and blasting BP's well 'closed forever', from 'a Canadian viewpoint', VOPT can only imagine about the impending destruction that is destined to happen.

Initially, entire species of Canadian birds, which migrate to the Gulf every year, will instantly disappear in the winter of 2010 when they dive into the Gulf’s pollution in search of food.

In the worst scenario, extended over the long term through the blending process of ocean currents, Obama's lack of leadership could eventually effect all of Planet Earth, all of its sea life, all of its food chains, all of it's ocean-produced oxygen, all of its land life.

In reality, Obama's final "God bless America' should have been 'God hope for Planet Earth" because of his lack of vision, decision, leadership, taking command and using the enormous power and weight of ‘President of the United States of America’.

UPDATE: The only thing that leaks up faster than BP’s oil in the Gulf of Mexico is the estimates of its daily volume. On ‘Day One’ the leak was “1,000 to 2,000 barrels a day”, then BP’s figure of “5,000 a day” and up and up the figures went.

Today, the US government itself came out with the latest “guesstimate” of the flow of polluting ‘black gold’. On its high end was “60 thousand barrels a day”. To wrap your head around this number, think of your car. That’s 2,500,000 gallons a day. "2.5 million" blows you mind out when you consider that there have been no plans from Prez Obama to destroy the leak forever.

TONIGHT: After nearly 60-days of BP’s leaking oil, the former, junior Senator from Illinois, again demonstrated a total lack of leadership and command. Instead, his first address from the Oval Office was similar to that of an infomercial promoting long-term, ‘Clean Energy’ while the coasts of the USA’s Gulf of Mexico States blacken and die with pollution.

Where’s this oratorical genius coming from?

Now, who said that Obama was incapable of creating long-term, private sector jobs?

The ‘close to a million dollars’ in presidential campaign contributions from ‘Big Oil’, has saved this unbelievable orator, a grad from the remnants of his Democrat's former and filthy, buy ‘n sell, 'Chicago machine' which dates back to Al Capone.

On Thursday, June 3rd, CNN released the latest estimate that the BP site is polluting the Gulf of Mexico at a rate of 33,000 gallons an hour, “9 gallons per second".

Contrary to what President Obama and his talking heads are saying, BP ‘does not have’ the equipment or expertise to control or ‘permanently close’ their runaway, oil well in the Gulf of Mexico. Only the President and the Pentagon have the authority, tools and knowledge to stop BP’s current polluting and wrecking of the ecology, environment, economics and jobs in the Gulf.

Only the President and Pentagon have the mega tonnage in a bomb that would shift, shatter and melt the rock around and below BP’s offending, 13,000 foot pipe, squeezing, sealing, closing and obliterating its threat forever.

If President Obama had the leadership and will, using BP’s or the Pentagon’s own submersibles for placement of the explosive device(s), he could immediately execute ‘a complete closing’ BP’s well head, almost tomorrow.

Because of the estimated 2,222 pounds per square inch (psi) in pressure at the wellhead, such an explosion would be very ‘restricted’ and ‘localized’, having little or no effect on the other 20 or so other oil rigs off the coast of Louisiana.

Mr. President:

After the catastrophe-stretching and total failure of last week's ‘Top Kill’ maneuvers at BP’s environment-destroying oil site, please forget about it and BP’s two other unsuccessful measures to stop their devastating polluting of your US coastline.

Also, please forget about considering all future bandaid, 'containment' proposals from BP, one of your many, ‘Big Oil’ campaign contributors.

It was chillingly noted that, under your authority and with your 'full approval', each failed attempt had included a continuation of BP’s extracting oil for profit, not the ‘forever closing’ of their destructive hole in the Gulf of Mexico’s ocean floor. Considering what is at stake, that's scary.

Following six, disastrous weeks, BP's failed attempts and Louisiana’s growing losses of wetlands, birds, sea life and jobs, you are long overdue in cutting BP loose and taking the only established action to ‘permanently stop and seal’ the flow of their polluting oil.

The answer is simple.

As President of the USA, bomb, blast, fracture, shatter and shift the deep, oceanic rock underneath and around BP’s mile-down, well head.

Today at news conference, US Prez, Barack Obama, said that he and his administration has been on top, in total control of and had approved everything that is being done at the BP’s ‘Deepwater Horizon’ runaway, catastrophically polluting, oil site since the catastrophe first began.

The ramifications of Obama’s administration’s 'control' and thinking are enormous.

If this is true, this would mean that Obama was in full agreement with BP’s past five weeks of failed attempts to funnel ‘the black gold’ back up to waiting tankers for later refining and the resultant, continuing polluting.

Obama was originally not for the capping and forever closing of the Deepwater Horizon well. (Was 'the man of change' in the back pockets of Big Oil's campaign contributors?) As a result, he had directly opted for a continuous polluting of America's waters and shoreline, while there was an immediate answer available.

On the bright side, that would also mean that yesterday’s “Top Kill’ attempt, five weeks in to the leak, would have sealed the hole in the Gulf’s floor, was also controlled and approved by the Obama Administration.

Obama added that BP has the expertise and all of the equipment to get to the job. This is not true.

BP does not have the equipment available - the only “equipment” that has been proven to successful work to ‘totally close’ deep sea blowouts - the only ‘equipment’ that fractures, shatters and forces deep, under-sea rock together.

Obama has stockpiles of these pieces of ‘equipment’.

BP does not.

The Soviet Union used this specialized ‘equipment’ five times, as far back as 1966, without stalling and endless, empire-building, bureaucratic-employment-creating ‘environmental studies’. The problem is now.

As I write this, four hours ago with a project labeled ‘Top Kill”, British Petroleum began its last and likely ‘final attempt’ to stop the gush of environmental-killing, Gulf of Mexico oil from their ‘Deepwater Horizon’ well. Unlike BP’s former attempts which were designed for BP to still recover ‘black gold’ from below the ocean’s floor, this endeavor would permanently shut and close the spewing, mile-down well head forever.

One suspects that two things have happened.

First, following over five weeks of BP’s failed attempts, the Obama Administration was forced by public opinion, especially ‘Louisianans’, (including Democrat, former-Obama-promoting, ‘James Carville’), to finally cut their BP campaign contributors loose.

“No more future-profit games, guys. Seal the gawd-damned thing off”.

The second and possibly the most important motivation for BP’s attempt to bring an end their ‘Deepwater Horizon’ catastrophe was that their world stocks prices have fallen by a reported 25%.

This afternoon, in case of a failure by “Top Kill”, an opinion-warning, trial balloon went up. The Obama’s Administration’s ‘Army Corp of Engineers’ may take over total control of this endlessly-polluting disaster. The only problem here is that the Corp is committed to doing bureaucratic, time-consuming, ‘environmental studies’ before it can act.

In the end, with or without ‘PR’, the buck stops in The Oval Office with the military’s Commander and Chief, President Barack Obama and his employing of the only known method of closing ‘deep water’ oil and gas wells forever.

In the sixties and seventies, proven to work by the then-communist, Soviet Union in their initial attempts ‘to close’ four out of five similar, oil/gas runaways, they “nuked” them.

Here’s the best test of ‘the real mettle’ of Barack Obama.

As British Petroleum staggers, stalls and continues to fail in their bandage attempts to stop their Gulf of Mexico oil leak, certain cold facts become very evident.

1/ BP have refused to drop the idea of extracting oil from their corrupted, 'Deepwater Horizon' oil producing site. After all, it had cost them millions of dollars to drill and develop Deepwater Horizon. Deepwater Horizon could be worth future billions and billions of dollars.

2/ Every one of BP’s failed solutions to stop the oil flow, have held certain things in common:

a) Each 'solution' was not designed to ‘stop’ the enviornmentally-destructive flow.

b) Each 'solution' was designed to ‘contain’ the oil.

c) Each 'solution' included and still includes BP capturing and sending ‘black gold’ to BP’s, surface tankers, not closing their deep, polluting, oil flue forever.

3/ BP’s continuing and out-of-control flood of oil is doing long-term, disastrous, environmental damage to the shorelines, swamps and many USA livelihoods of the Gulf of Mexico.

4/ This week some oceanography experts were stating that the Gulf current could begin sending the floating oil away from the Gulf, around the bottom of Florida and up the east coast of the USA.

5/ BP and the Obama administration have yet to suggest ‘the total closing and sealing-off’ of BP’s hole in the oceans floor. If they had, the answer would be clear and simple and it had been offered in the early days of the leak, but was quickly rejected.

6/ There is only one proven technology that does survive to deal with BP’s blunder. Tried, tested and proven, it has existed for 44-years.

a) It would ‘forever close’ BP’s hole in the floor of the Gulf.

b) It has a track record of being 80% effective ‘the first time’ in four out of five applications.

c) It is ‘the only proven method to stop BP’s oil leak”

7/ In Uzbekistan, on September 30, 1966”, the former Soviet Union first employed this highly-calculated technology.

a) It plugged a polluting flue with a controlled, nuclear blast “1.5 times the strength of the Hiroshima bomb at a depth of 1.5 kilometers”.

b) From then until 1979, the Russians employed the method four more times to move and catastrophically-fracture deep-earth rock, permanently closing and sealing-off ocean and land, oil and gas leaks.

8/ As the Soviet’s “Pravda” had reported, it is simple. A nuclear explosion “moves the rock, presses on it, and, in essence, squeezes the well’s channel” closed.

9/ Unlike the USA’s Obama administration, the communist state was not obligated to look for guidance at the campaign-contributing and relentlessly, profit-seeking, oil-recovering BPs of the world.

10/ For BP, the downside from using the Russian’s proven technology would be that they would be prevented from extracting one more drop of oil from their ‘Deepwater Horizon’, Gulf of Mexico site.

11/ For Obama, unless sold to the American public, the word ‘nuclear’ could effect voting at the ballot boxes by ‘the ignorant’.

12/ The ‘nuclear option’ is the only known and proven way to ‘permanently close’ BP’s Deepwater Horizon wellhead.

The final “cold fact”: When questioning why BP’s ‘Deepwater Horizon’ site is still endlessly spewing out its ‘black gold’ and ‘environmental poison’, as usual, “follow the money, discover the truth”.

Opposition Parties have been monotonously crying about not having access to the papers concerning Canada’s detainees in Afghanistan.

Forget yesterday’s directions from The Speaker of The House of Commons for two weeks of negotiations between the Opposition Parties and the Conservatives. Prime Minister Stephen Harper should stand up, take control of the control the agenda and be 'wide-open'.

The answer is so simple:

1. Declare all of the detainee papers and reports, all information and details, to be “secret” for ‘national security purposes’.

2. Swear ‘The Oath of Secrecy’ to each and every Opposition MP.

3. Let the MPs read the pages.

Irrelevant of what Opposition MPs discover, no matter how injurious it could be to the Conservative Party involvement in a Liberal Party commitment to Afghanistan, none of the Opposition could ever refer to any of the ‘secret’ information or ‘secret’ details, directly or indirectly, for the rest of their lives, from the information that they were sworn not to divulge.

This would effectively halt and stop the monotonous moaning of Opposition Parties, notably, that 'visiting' and totally-politically-incompetent prof, named "Michael Ignatieff".

'BILL C-428" FOR "THE SUCKER COUNTRY OF THE WORLD"

With a flood of baby boomers collecting or about to collect old age pensions, many Canadians, both young and old, are concerned about the stability of Old Age Security (OAS) and its future funding. These Canucks do not include Liberal MPs, Ruby Dhalla or Bob Rae.

Dhalla moved and Rae seconded Bill C-428, a Bill to primarily reduce the ‘residency time’ for immigrants to qualify to receive OAS from 10 to 3 short years, but with 'additional generosities' that border on 'pure insanity'.
(With OAS funding under a current and future siege. the time period should have been extended to 12, 15, 20 or more years with no lunatic-like ‘additionals’.)

As with current OAS qualifying rules, with Bill C-428, an immigrant ‘resident’ still does not require Canadian citizenship or to have paid one Canadian nickel in taxes of any nature in order to qualify for full OAS benefits.

To make matters even worse to the financial drag on OAS, Bill C-428 goes much further and creates exemptions to the proposed 3-year requirement through what is termed as “aggregate periods” and a redefinition of a “specially qualified individual”.

Apparently it isn’t it bad enough that papa or momma, brother or sister, aunt, uncle or cousin of one new Canadian can immigrate and pick up ‘Canadian residency’ under ‘Family Reunification’ provisions of Canada’s bleeding-heart, Immigration Act.

In this age of rising, health care costs, apparently isn’t it bad enough that elderly non-contributing ‘residents’ from around the world, (who may have never seen a doctor during their lives in their own countries), can flood our provincial healthcare systems, emergency rooms, hospital beds, etc., displacing Canadian citizens.

Apparently it isn’t it bad enough that, once qualified, such ‘residents’ can leave Canada, ‘go home’, and have their CPP cheques mailed to any part of the world.
Apparently these current rip-offs are not enough for Dhalla and Rae.

Through multicultural, ethnic-divided voting patterns, immigrant-vote-seeking politicians are now running the asylum. Call them on it and you’ll likely risk being labeled as a ‘racist’, when race has nothing to do with maintaining the integrity of our country, Canada.

In his 70’s,80’s and 90’s columns, my late buddy, Bob Macdonald of the Toronto Sun, labeled Canada as ‘the sucker country of the world’.

Two days ago, Dalton McGuinty wrote his own political death notice. He went over the edge with his brand of a 'home invasion'.

McGuinty's new Sex Ed curriculum will be opposed by all religious factions and responsible parents of Ontario.

"Grade 1 kids will be taught to identify genitalia - among other body parts - using the correct word, such as penis, vagina and testicle. The 1998 curriculum made no mention of genitalia.

"Eight year olds (will be taught) about gender identity, sexual orientation and same-sex marriage.

"Grade 3 lessons (will be) about the differences that make each person unique will now also include discussion about same-sex families and students with special needs to "reflect the government commitment to equity and inclusive education," according to provincial officials.

"Sixth graders would be taught about masturbation and vaginal lubrication.

"12 year olds will get lessons on oral and anal sex".

The day later, McGuinty said that Ontario's Catholic schools will not be exempt.

"Starting Ontario sex ed in Grade 1 pits McGuinty against family groups"

By his own hand, Liberal Dalton has created a huge, 'moral majority' against his next election.

You have stated that you do not want your business friends to incur more costs. So who's left?

Why, my brother and I, of course. We'd be willing to pitch back twenty or thirty per cent of our CPP incomes to help out future CPP recipients. This would help our national government continue its programs in helping dozens of nations, friend or foe, around the world. And helping the US military industrial complex fight its wars. And extend our open arms and money to anyone arriving at our borders.
Michael and I can willingly help you out with your pension problems.

Your present scenario reminds me of a time, years ago, when your party announced that you were going to help out renters by introducing the "Tennant Protection Act". What a piece of shit that one was.

The law will investigate, arrest and charge these criminal pieces of the RC Church’s ‘collared filth’.

Hopefully and mainly, 'the law' will also expose and prosecute those who were ‘accessories to the crimes’, no matter how high in the Church’s hierocracy this may reach. After all, these 'collars' were ‘the enablers’ who permitted, in a twisted way ‘blessed’, these heinous, unholy offenses to continue through their brotherly, 'priesthood cover-ups'.

If this blows apart the Vatican, so be it.

No Priest, Bishop, Cardinal, or even The Pope himself, is above the law.
This ‘goes double’ for local, legal authorities and politicians who turned blind eyes on these monstrously-wicked, (alleged) wrecking of the lives of young boys.

People who hide or 'cover-up' a crime are still charged as ‘accessories to the crime'.

One can only hope that The Holy Father or his subordinates, will quickly address and dismiss the recent, unsubstantiated and vicious, TIME magazine attack on Himself that (allegedly) occurred when he was 'Archbishop Joseph Ratzinger' of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, Germany.

Simply, this could have never happened or, on such a blasphemous exposure, 'The Keeper of the Faith', The Holy Father, would have immediately resigned, the first Pope to do so in over 600-years.

SIDEBAR I: In an interview with TIME magazine (March 20, 2010), German psychiatrist. 'Dr. Werner Huth', "paints a portrait of the priest known as Father H., accused of sexually abusing boys in the archdiocese of Munich and Freising, then run by Archbishop Joseph Ratzinger, the future Pope Benedict XVI.

"Father H., says the psychiatrist, "was narcissistic, like other pedophiles, and I repeatedly warned church officials in the 1980s that he shouldn't be allowed to work with children or young people.

"Dr. Huth says the priest came to him in 1980 after he was transferred to Munich to undergo therapy. As Archbishop of Munich and Freising, 'Ratzinger' approved the transfer from Essen to Munich and the decision to give Father H. housing in the Munich diocese to undertake therapy".

Surely, this did not happen.

Surely, The Holy Father would have never hid 'an admitted pedophile' and repeating, 'sex offender', from 'the law'.

If he was alive, I am sure that Jesus Christ's 'St. Peter', who founded the world-wide Roman Catholic Church and Christianity itself, would have never have hid ‘a pedophilic criminal' in his ranks from facing prosecution by the state.

Each federal budget reminds me of the annual, ‘almost-ritualized’, spending frenzy of Canadian taxpayer’s dollars. This takes place at the end of each fiscal year by the taxpayer’s “Government of Canada’s civil service’” “Spend, spend, spend” becomes each civil servant manager’s focus.

The reason for the ‘shell-out’ is based on the misguided advancement criteria for each public service manager’ salary and designation, They are enhanced with every boost in his/her ‘signing authority’. “The more one can sign for, the more are the rewards”. The mechanism appears to be ‘the fastest way’ to advance up the ranks of the civil service.

Add the “getting rid of budgets” (taxpayer’s money) to renowned, civil service ‘empire-building’ and you have a volatile model that continues to suck Canadian taxpayers dry.

Elected representatives turn ‘blind eyes’ on the almost-incestuous, budget-draining practice.
Never wishing to ruffle the feathers of the civil service, they become ‘part of the problem’, definitely not ‘the solution’.

For both, getting rid of budgets” appears as an annual, monetary rape and reckless squandering of taxpayers’ money. But nobody has ever said anything. Shamefully, it is viewed as being ‘business as usual’.

Some years ago, a buddy and retiring, senior civil service manager, ‘Gil’, explained the civil service mindset to me. It goes this way: Once a government budget has been approved and allocated, each civil servant manager considers that “it belongs to him or she”, “to do with it what they may”. This includes spending every last cent, even if estimated programmes are cancelled, or interim adjustments and reductions did not require it.

My retiring pal further explained that departmental estimates, delivered to politicians, are ‘naturally inflated’ to protect the validity of the projections of civil service managers. “We would never wish to be looking stupid, be embarrassed and have to go back for interim funding”.

Gil added: “Politicians and governments come and go. They are only momentary. We are here forever. We take care of ourselves”.

Just how bad for taxpayers is ‘getting rid of budgets’?

On year, in the late 1970’s, the twelve monthly figures of the annual budget of the USA’s federal government came to light. The monthly figures demonstrated that spending was ‘six-times higher’ during the last month of their fiscal year than on the average of the previous eleven. Since then, the USA has stopped releasing these monthly numbers. At that time, monthly figures for the Canadian government were not available as they still remain today.

With civil servants being ‘civil servants’, systems being ‘systems, coupled with my personal experiences, reaching the conclusion is that each government’s “servants” and ‘systems’ operate in much the same way, is not difficult to reach.

(Background: Before running for Parliament in 1988, from 1969 to ’75, I had been an Ottawa-based supplier of contract engineering personnel to both industry and the Government of Canada. I had been a happy, appreciative, annual, non-bidding receiver of the annual ‘getting-rid-of-budget’ and taxpayer dollars. It did not matter how non-productive, insensible and ridiculous the civil servants’ ‘instant projects’ may have been.

(After becoming active in politics, I became focused on this annual exercise and wrote a brief paper on this monumental rip-off and wastage of taxpayer’s dollars with ‘recommendations’ on how to change it. These were implemented and being tested in two departments by the brief, 1979 government of Prime Minister, Joe Clark before they were immediately cancelled with Trudeau’s return to power).

Today, facing this year’s $50+ Billion deficit, to add to Canada’s $500 Billion debt, one would think that, of all governments, Harper’s business-minded ‘conservatives’ would have monthly expenditure figures readily available. Every private sector business does. They are vital in running any business, private or public. Think again. They don’t. Statistics Canada does not possess the monthly figures and the Ministry of Finance either does not or can not respond to requests for them because they do not exist.

So, here we are in March, 2010 with Finance Minister Jim Flaherty wincing over a $50+ Billion deficit and doing a cross-country, selling tour of his Harper government’s budget.

If any politician had any control over their civil servants, dealing with a deficit and constantly reducing Canada’s accumulated ($500 Billion) debt would be bloodless and easy. But, maybe that is it. It is too obvious and too simple. It would mean having a ‘responsible government’ who, for the taxpayers, had the guts to take control and end the yearly, repugnant, ‘getting-rid-of-budget’ dance. It would also mean ‘a major change’ to the career pathways, rankings and rewards of the civil service.

The retiring, civil servant manager ‘Gil’ had added, “We are untouchable. Just keep paying your taxes. You can never change it.”

If we could “change it” and if the 6-times spending figure is applicable today and not larger, Canada’s yearly, federal expenditure of taxpayer’s money could be reduced by 29% without any programme cancellations, provincial transfer reductions, salary reductions, freezes, additional taxes, etc.

To put this into perspective, for every $100 Billion in current federal spending, 29 Billion, Canadian taxpayer dollars would not be blown away on ’getting-rid-of budgets.

It is March, that time of year and the ritualized, spending frenzy of getting rid of Canadian taxpayer’s dollars continues.

Meanwhile, fellow Canadians smile, be happy and proud of your government’s ‘totally avoidable’ deficits and debt which your children, grandchildren and their babies will be inheriting.

TAX STAFF TO BE PAID $25M IN SEVERANCE, REHIRED

This is not 'unbelievable', this is beyond all comprehension.

1,250 fully-pension-indexed, civil servants of Ontario’s Ministry of Revenue will be carving up $25 Million taxpayer dollars in severance pay when they shift from the provincial to the federal government when the gouging and hated “harmonized sales tax’ (HST), which takes effect on Thursday, July 1.

The average ‘goodbye kiss’ from the taxpayers, via the McGuinty Government, will be $20,000, with some payroll switchers leaving their provincial bosses with as much as $45,000.

The word ‘leaving” is not appropriate because on Thursday, July 1st, the ‘servants’ will still be at their same desks in their same offices doing the same things that they did on Wednesday, June 30th for the province.

Technically, the 1,250 will be unemployed for 17 or so hours, some of which will be while they are sleeping at a rate of around $1,177 per hour.

The $45K, 'top dogs' will be snozing off at a rate of near $2,647 per hour.

It is no doubt that there will be 1,250 smiling faces in Ontario's 'slumber land' on the night of June 30th.

While the provincial government of British Columbia firmly rejected such insanity in their July 1st conversion to HST, it appears that ‘the inmates are running the asylum’ in Dalton McGuinty’s ‘Ontario’.

Far beyond any intellectual capacity or any care for taxpayer’s dollars. Beyond all comprehension.

PAYING INTEREST ON MONEY THAT WE LOANED TO BANKS.

As we hear Canada's major, chartered banks reporting record profits this week and next, here is how they made some of those Loonies with absolutely no risk or heavy lifting.

In an attempt to loosen up credit for small (job-generating) businesses, the taxpayer's 'Bank of Canada' loan out the taxpayer’s money to the banks at close to 0% interest

In turn, the banks invest the taxpayer’s ‘stimulus money’, not in small business loans, rather in Canadian Treasury bills. Hopefully, this capital is leveraged to finally reach its originally-intended destination, but with no apparent, attached conditions, who knows?.

With the stroke of a banker’s pen, Canadian taxpayers are stuck with paying banks close to a 3% clean, clear profit on 'the very money' that the taxpayers had provided to them in the first place.

Whoa.

Is there something excessively wrong with this optic?

If you are a bank, I would guess not.

Under any other model, it could never get any better.

Is it only a coincidence that two weeks ago the USA's airport/airline security protocol was leaked to the world over the net and two days ago a Muslim terrorist attempted to blow up a plane on it's appoach to the Detroit airport?

Nobody, no 'security, no 'politician' or no 'talking head' has yet mentioned it. But maybe they didn't have to. Their immediate, knee-jerk, increased, airport security procedures spoke volumes.

It makes one wonder what other 'holes' in the 'security protocol' the Muslim terrorists have discovered?

Two weeks ago, the USA’s secret, ‘screening protocols’ for aircraft passenger safety were compromised and posted on the world-wide web.

Yesterday's Northwest/Delta, Detroit-bound flight landing, looked like a test/trial run by Moslem terrorists to see if they possess the current, 'screening protocols' vs. false, misguiding, 'leak cover-ups' obviously put out by US security.

If so, the Moslem terrorist’s test-trial worked. Reading the ‘protocol’, the terrorists saw ‘holes’ and walked an improvised bomb on board a USA-bound aircraft.

Are we now to expect radical, Moslem terrorists on air flights every month, every week or, with this wide-spread knowledge, every day?

Is the Pope Catholic?

Expect more.

Whew. While we got off easy this time, the next few, Moslem terrorist attacks, sliding through 'those holes', may well dwarf the infamous ‘9/11’.

The latest of what VOTP considers to be 'the top Canadian political polling organization', the "Nanos Poll", finally released the most puzzling poll in its entire history.

Completed August 2nd, but only released on "Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 2:01 AM", the Nanos National Poll presented "Canadians' views on minority governments and Harper's re-election a mixed bag"

The last question of three is what grabbed VOTP's attention and baffles the mind.:

"Some people think that Stephen Harper has done a good enough job to deserve re-election. Others think that he has had his chance and it is time for a change. Which of these two opinions best reflects your personal view"?

Time for a change: 58.5%
Deserves re-election: 31.9%
Unsure: 9.5%

How could "58.5%" of Canadians think that Stephen Harper "had his chance and it is time for a change'?

Without citing through the Harper Government's record and accomplishments, what is the option?

1, The Lib’s “Michael Ignatieff” who functionally remains “an unknown” aside from signing on with Quebec’s BQ separatists to, with Layton’s NDP, to form a coalition to knock the Conservatives from their minority government position.

This reaction of Ignatieff had immediately followed a federal election where the Canadian people had spoken at the ballot box, returning another Harper minority government

As an MP, this demonstrated Iggy’s level of respect for the Canada’s democratic process.

2. The NDP’s “Jack Layton” who could not even manage to drop the word “New” from his Party’s name at their convention of last week?

“Time for a change: 58.5%?”

VOTP is blown away by the ever-shortening, ‘attention and recall spans’ of fellow Canadians.

58.5%?

Beyond ‘belief.

I can only hope that the "Nanos Poll", hit that the “1” in their qualifier that the “survey of 1,002 Canadians is accurate to within 3.1 percentage points, plus or minus, 19 times out of 20”.

Otherwise, God Help Us and my fellow-Canadians' 'ignorance'.

HOW 'STUPID' CAN THE SUPPOSEDLY, CIVILIZED WESTERN WORLD BECOME?

After 9/11, aside from the ever-changing and ever-shifting, Bush Doctrine, my Canada, the UN, NATO and other coalitions have become involved in ‘democratizing’ backward, religious/trial countries, most being variations of a multitude of Islamic belief systems - Shitte. Suni and Kurd come quickly to mind.

Only recently did the West settle, likely only momentary. the ingrained hatred between their Catholics and Protestants in Ireland. And these Western indoctrinated, dogma-draped haters of each other were not illiterates.

With due respect, in the World of Mohammed most are functionally ‘illiterate’.

Most of the World of Mohammed is ignorant, suppressed and, overall, is without meaningful ‘worldly education’.

Why should Canadians, Germans, French, the USA or whoever, spill one more ounce of their young people’s blood in such hopeless causes as imposing ‘democracy’ on groups of backward, religious tribes who have been raised and trained to hate each other?

Unless it is only to maintain the West’s military-industrial-complex, that’s the $64,000 question.

Don’t the wives, children, mothers, fathers, etc, who receive the returning body bags of their loved ones, deserve straight answers from the USA’s Obama and Canada’s Harper?

"Canada's tolerance misplaced"

Canada's Immigration Minister Jason Kenney is getting flak from the usual suspects, but he deserves praise instead.

Recently, Kenney pointed out that while at a meeting in Toronto, members of Canada's Pakistani community called on him to make Punjabi one of Canada's official languages. It makes me angry that such an idea would enter the minds of my fellow and former countrymen, let alone express them to a Minister of the Crown.

A few months ago, I was dismayed to learn that Erik Millett, the principal of Belleisle School in Springfield, N. B., limited playing our national anthem because the families of a couple of his students objected to it.

As a social scientist, I oppose this kind of political correctness, lack of assimilation of new immigrants to mainstream Canada, hyphenated-Canadian identity, and the lack of patriotism in our great nation.

Increasingly, Canadians feel restricted in doing things the Canadian way lest we offend minorities. We cannot even say Merry Christmas without fear of causing offence. It is amazing that 77 per cent of the Canadian majority are scared of offending 23 per cent of minorities. We have become so timid that the majority cannot assert its own freedom of expression. We cannot publicly question certain foreign social customs, traditions and values that do not fit into the Canadian ethos of equality. Rather than encouraging new immigrants to adjust to Canada, we tolerate peculiar ways of doing things. We do not remind them that they are in Canada, not in their original homelands.

In a multicultural society, it is the responsibility of minorities to adjust to the majority. It does not mean that minorities have to to-tally amalgamate with the majority. They can practise some of their cultural traditions within their homes --their backstage behaviour. However, when outside of their homes, their front stage behaviour should resemble mainstream Canadian behaviour. Whoever comes to Canada must learn the limits of our system. We do not kill our daughters or other female members of our families who refuse to wear hijab, niqab or burka which are not mandated by the Qur'an anyway. We do not kill our daughters if they date the "wrong" men. A 17-year-old Sikh girl should not have been killed in British Columbia by her father because she was caught dating a Caucasian man.

We do not practise the dowry system in Canada, and do not kill our brides because they did not bring enough dowry. Millions of female fetuses are aborted every year in India, and millions of female infants have been killed by their parents in India and China. Thousands of brides in India are burned to death in their kitchens because they did not bring enough dowry into a marriage. Some 30,000 Sikhs living abroad took the dowries but abandoned their brides in India in 2005. This is not accepted in Canada.

In some countries, thousands of women are murdered every year for family or religious honour. We should not hide behind political correctness and we should expose the cultural and religious background of these heinous crimes, especially if it happens in Canada. We should also expose those who bring their cultural baggage containing the social custom of female circumcision. I was shocked when I learned about two cases of this barbaric custom practised in St. Catharines, Ont. a few years ago.

I have said it on radio and television, have written in my columns in the Calgary Herald, and I have written in my latest book, Journey to Success, that I do not agree with the hyphenated identity in Canada because it divides our loyalties. My argument is that people are not forced to come to Canada and they are not forced to stay here. Those who come here of their own volition and stay here must be truly patriotic Canadians or go back.

I am a first-generation Canadian from Pakistan. I left Pakistan 45 years ago. I cannot ignore Pakistan, because it is the homeland of my folks, but my loyalty should be and is to Canada. I am, therefore, a proud Canadian, no longer a Pakistani-Canadian. I am a Canadian Muslim, not a Muslim Canadian.

I do not agree with those Canadians who engage in their fight against the system in their original countries on Canadian soil. They should go back and fight from within. For example, some of the Sikhs, Tamil Tigers, Armenians and others have disturbed the peace in Canada because of their problems back home. Recently, a low-level leader of MQM, the Mafia of Pakistan, came to Canada as a refugee and started to organize public rallies to collect funds for their cause in Pakistan. On July 18, 2007, the Federal Court of Canada ruled that MQM is a terrorist group led by London-based Altaf Hussain, their godfather. As a member in the coalition government of Pakistan, this terrorist group is currently collaborating with the Taliban in Pakistan. That refugee was deported back to Pakistan. Similarly, I dis-agree with newcomers who bring their religious baggage here. For example, Muslims are less than two per cent of the Canadian population, yet in 2004 and 2005, a fraction of them, the fundamentalists, wanted to bring sharia law to Canada. If they really want to live under sharia, they should go to the prison-like countries where sharia is practised.

I once supported multiculturalism in Canada because I believed it gave us a sense of pluralism and diversity. However, I have observed and experienced that official multiculturalism has encouraged convolution of the values that make Canada the kind of place people want to immigrate to in the first place.

Here, we stand on guard for Canada, not for countries we came from. Like it or not, take it or leave it, standing on guard only for Canada is our national maxim. Remember, O Canada is our national anthem which must not be disregarded by anybody, including the teacher in Springfield, N. B.

EDITOR: Canada needs more respected and recognized Canadian Muslims, like "Mahfooz Kanwar", to speak out and tell it like it is.

READER "P" WRITES: "ROBERT MACNAMARA, RIP"

Robert McNamara has finally kicked it but he will not be getting the sendoff Michael Jackson is getting. He was one of those guys who was just too clever to fail, and yet he did – at almost everything.

As President of Ford Motor Company he baffled company executives with his bizarre aggressiveness and refusal to accommodate any difference of opinion from people who knew better than him. Like the time he refused to allow the purchase of new, larger paint booths suggesting that the cars should be constructed in two halves then welded together.

After LBJ canned his butt as Secretary of Defence he embarked on a career as President of the World Bank where he successfully roped in anyone who wasn’t already in debt up to the hilt and made sure they were – and stayed that way.

But of course his major accomplishment was as the architect of the Vietnam War where everything that he could have got wrong – he did.

He never took a step back, never admitted to ever making a mistake, never allowing that anything was ever his fault. And yet, it was written all over his face. The pain, the guilt, the anguish, the body language, the torment of a tortured soul.

He would never say it but here was a man who would have done things differently if he could have the time back. His modern day equivalent is Dick Cheney.

Like McNamara he never took a step back, never admitted to ever making a mistake, never allowing that anything was ever his fault. The difference is there isn’t a trace of remorse. Not a vestige of regret.

Here is a man who would do everything the same – only more of it. His only regret is that he will never have the chance to take another crack at it and truly believes that he deserves to.

McNamara was tormented by the fate of captured American pilots.

Cheney slept like a baby knowing that his drone aircraft would not present him with that problem.

McNamara was constantly under attack by the media.

(The only person to raise an eyelid at Cheney is Jon Stewart and he is a comedian). Times haven’t changed that much but the media have. Richard Nixon had to deal with Davis Frost pecking at his eyes like some irritating little bird.

Dick Cheney has FOX, CNN and the rest of the gang on side.

Anyone who doesn’t see it his way is unpatriotic and probably 'a terrorist'.

EDITOR: Yeah.

Both slid through amazing Board of Directors and President-appointed, 'hidden webs' to be there.

Unlike Bob, Dick was part of 'a ticket' and did win an election 'by the people'.

To go completely 'conspiracy-minded', one can only wonder what it costed 'Ford' in potential, campaign contributions to place 'Robert' where they wanted him to be?

Or the potential, campaign contributions from Halliburton to place Dick one heartbeat away from George W?

Forget, Robert.

With Dick and the totally-phony Iraq War (non-existent WMD's, etc, etc,), Halliburton made lots of $$$.

Good corporate 'investments'?

You bet.

As I coined and as I say, when faced with a confusing, incomprehensible question in politics, "Follow The Money, Discover The Truth".

It works every time, but only if you research and dig deep enough.

Sarah Palin is a beautiful, exciting woman but she never was a presidential candidate. Nevertheless, given the age and medical history of John McCain that is effectively what she was five minutes ago. Now, she seems to be a running joke on late night talk shows.

No one gets that bad in that space of time without doing anything.

Something tells me Sarah is being set up.

The Republican Party is washed up and they can’t figure out why. After the brilliant leadership of George Bush and the dynamic campaign of John McCain they can’t understand how they lost; and more perplexing they can’t understand why nobody likes them.

Now the Republican Party need a scapegoat to blame all their failures on.

Sarah is perfect.

Highly visible.

Not too bright.

Somewhat vulnerable.

By the time they have finished with her she will be the supremely corrupt bimbo. That’s how the Republican Party works; the Democratic Party too; they’re just not so good at it.

EDITOR: May I humbly suggest that the Grand Old Party did not lose the Presidential Election Campaign in 'a conventional sense'.

They were caught totally off-guard and swamped by a multi-media, co-ordinated campaign built around the superb, evangelical oratory of the charismatic Obama, with the backing by a new grassroots, political machine.

Like deers stunned by headlights, poor John McCain and his GOP backers didn't know what had hit them. Even though Sarah was likely one of the worst choices as a running mate for VP, one-heart-beat-away from the elder McCain, it didn't matter.

Against the power of the Obama machine, it is doubtful if that even that first guy who 'walked on water', could have changed the results.

The election of Obama changed the dynamics and blueprints on how political campaigns will be run forever. In political back-rooms, it must be becoming 'the new playbook'.

Ask Hillary and her cigar-tube-shovin' hubby, Bill. They were blown off the map in the Democratic primaries by these Obamic changes to the USA’s campaign process.

After the Democratic Party's primaries, Obama’s well-tuned, intact machine was turned around. It sank, buried and bulldozed over the McCain/Pallin ticket. John McCain, with or without Sarah, didn’t stand a chance against the honey-dripping words that endlessly dripped from the lips of Obama and his 'extended charisma' that exploded above all others in past presidential elections, eclipsing ever that of JFK.

As one of the three Republican front runners for 2012, yesterday Sarah resigned from her job as Governor of Alaska in a fumbling, unscripted, directionless, incomprehensible speech. It left all pundits, including VOTP, scratching their heads. The former beauty queen and small town mayor was only halfway through her first term as Governor.

Unless ex-Governor Sarah has the support of that other guy, the one who walked on water, she effectively shut and nailed down the lid on her political ambitions.

Sarah, being 'Sarah', did it all by herself, without any "set up" from the Republican Party.

So, here we go. The New GM is slowly being created. Politicians will tell us that the creation of "Government Motors" is necessary to protect jobs.

But jobs doing what?
As overpaid executives?
Overpaid production workers?
Engineers designing garbage?
Plants manufacturing overpriced, unmarketable automotive junk?

Aren't the automotive execs, blue collar workers, dealers and showroom sales people hated and distrusted by most people in our society?

Aren't the dealer service departments looked at as rip-off artists?

So, why are our governments now trying to save the futures of people we never enjoyed dealing with in the first place?

People who went out of business because we got sick, and poor, from dealing with them.

Car people put us into debt supporting their costly finance plans, exorbitant repair costs along with high product costs and low trade in allowances. Now, our governments expect us to be happy to spend billions of dollars to keep them alive

And this is just the start.
What happens when we are subjected to auto price increases in the future?
Or huge parts pricing increases?
Or out-of-sight service rate increases?

All in the name of industry financial stability.

How about when the UAW and the CAW vote to go on strike for increased wages and walk off the jobs we just saved for them?

Won't that be a kick in the head to every taxpayer after we spent Billions of dollars to save them their jobs??

And, we can't put them out of business again. 75 % of their money is our money. We can't afford to 'put 'em down'.

The politicians will get a few votes from the automotive sector but I think that, between the decisions of our governments, the greed of auto executives and the demands of the organized unions, we're in for a beating. All the parties are stacked against us, the taxpayer. Together, they are too big to fight. Maybe. We'd better get thinking, and soon.

Canadian and American taxpayers are about to own over 70% of General Motors (GM), ”Government Motors” as it has been tagged.

Not allowing ‘free enterprise capitalism’ to naturally cleanse itself of collapsing corporate failures, the USA’s Obama administration has and is demonstrating its total lack of faith in the USA’s economic system itself.

This morning, on ABC TV’s “This Week”, George Wills spoke of ‘a ricochet effect’.
Pointing out future distortions, he referred to the billions of dollars that Obama gave to GMAC, only to have GMAC turn around and offer to loan them out on purchases of GM cars at 0% interest for up to 5- years. They also lowered the financial qualifications of buyers.

Wills noted that such lowering of purchaser’s capabilities to pay back loans, is exactly the same as US banks had done with homes that are currently being foreclosed by the minute.

With his ‘blind faith’ in socialist Big Brother Government, Obama is using taxpayer’s dollars to produce unbelievably-unfair competition for the successful Ford Motor Company and other American automotive producers. The only sins that these players were and continue to commit are that they are producing products that people want to buy and are keeping their costs in check.

How can Ford, who have similar pension legacy costs and are still paying out full union rates to their workers, compete against the lowered labour cost and the endless pit of taxpayer borrowing that supports their strongest American competitors?

Oh yes, it will be an “endless pit” as Obama’s taxpayers borrow more money to shovel out in order to cover the bad money that Comrade Obama has already ‘invested’.

Every single, conservative, blood corpuscle in the bodies of Canada’s Harper and Flaherty must be screaming in rebellion as these men are being forced to go against their core, free enterprise capitalist, belief systems. ONE 'STEP TOO FAR' FOR A GOVERNOR-GENERAL

One of the beauties of having a Monarch in our Parliamentary system is that Canada’s “Head of State” gives a continuous historic stability to our country, above the dirt and filth in the 'politics of the day'.

Under Canada's system of government, when presented with bonifide requests, The Crown has the power to dissolve Canada’s Parliaments and the power to recognize an assembly of Opposition Parties to form Canada’s ‘official government’.

This is why none of our monarchs, currently our Queen of Canada, Elizabeth II, never makes a blatant, political comment to Canadians or to any other Members of her Commonwealth of Nations. The Crown’s work is to only ‘advise and consent’, not to ‘advocate or promote’.

These limited, yet overwhelming powers, since their beginnings in 1215 A.D., have evolved and maintained the importance that 'The Crown' keeps a distance from and above ‘the fray of day-to-day politics’.
This has been a paramount piece of our evolved system of today. I employed the word ‘has’, because it now appears that this is not the case any more in Canada with our current representative of The Crown.

Canada’s Governor-General is a direct representative of 'The Crown'.
Everything that he or she does, privately with politicians or publicly before media, is done in “The Name of The Crown”.
For all intensive purposes, from the reading of a government’s Speech from the Throne, to turning sod for a local building project, he or she is 'The Crown', currently Queen Elizabeth II.

This past week, the current G-G knifed at a seal’s heart and chewed on a piece of its raw, bloodied flesh.

Can you picture 'The Crown of Canada', Elizabeth II, who the current G-G represents, doing this?

Dutifully standing behind The Crown, would be her consort and husband, Prince Phillip. He would think that his wife and Queen had ‘gone over the edge’, lost it and gone ‘bonkers’.
Protocol and decorum does not seem to matter with our current G-G.

Not to ever ‘advocate or promote’, would Canada’ Queen Elizabeth II say:
“Canada is at least 40 years behind … Canada is the only northern state that doesn’t have a university in the North. Canada is four decades behind Norway, Finland, Sweden, the United States”?

This was followed with“The United States has three universities in Alaska. There’s a university in Greenland. In northern Sweden. In the Norwegian Arctic.”

Advocating and promoting the spending of Canadian Taxpayer’s cash is definitely not part or within Her or our G-G’s occupation or portfolio.
That’s part is left for Canada’s elected MPs in our top-down, party-line-controlled, political dictatorship.

It is apparent that CBCer “Michaëlle Jean”, (a refugee from Haiti), who replaced the other CBCer, Adrienne Clarkson, (a refugee/immigrant from Hong Kong), either does not read and understand the protocols and limits of her job description or she has absolutely no respect for what her position does not allow as our Queen’s representative of ‘The Crown’ in Canada.

Everything that the G-G, Michaëlle Jean, speaks, signs or does is in the name of Canada’s ‘Head of State’, Queen Elizabeth II.

As an example, all federal legislation requires a G-G’s signature before it becomes the law of the land.

Only a G-G can present a government’s “Speech from the Throne”.

A STERN WARNING TO ANY “WOULD-BE” ONTARIO TERRORISTS

Delivered this morning, here is something 'new and scary', depending upon where you are coming from.

If you get caught and convicted as being part of a domestic terrorism plot in the Province of Ontario, you are being forewarned...

If you are planning to kill dozens, hundreds or thousands of Canadians, you’d better look out. There are ‘hangin’ judges’ in Ontario.

In order to protect citizen’s lives, Ontario’s judiciary is extremely severe in their jail sentencing. Their brutal harshness sends out a stern message to other real or potential terrorist-killers: “In Ontario, terrorism doesn’t stand a chance”.

Today, this new, almost-inhumane severity showed its ugly head in a Brampton, Ontario courtroom.

'Canada’s first person' to be convicted in a “domestic terrorism plot, bent on wreaking havoc on Canadian targets”, was handed what will likely become a long line of chilling sentences in the future.

For being part of a group that were making plans to blow up the CN Tower and other Toronto landmarks, potentially killing hundreds/thousands of people, the unforgiving, Ontario Superior Court Justice John Sproat, slammed his gavel down.

His Honour brought down the strong arm of the law and hit this would-be terrorist-killer with a sentence that will make other would-bees cringe in fear. The potential killer of thousands was mercilessly sentenced to a long, “two and one-half years” in ‘the big house’.

Thank Alla, this is open for 'an appeal'.

Of course, this severe sentence was will not be served. It was cancelled by deducting the time that the convict had already been held in custody. As a result, a potential mass-killer walked out an Ontario courtroom door, arm-in-arm with family and friends, to go home or to a mosque for coffee, cake and cookies.

So, if you are making plans to carry out a terrorist’ “jihad” in Ontario and get caught, don’t say that you have not been pre-warned.

You will face the bursting muscle and full power of our body of law, as torturous and cruel as it may be.

Two speeches were delivered today on the "Gitmo Bay" prison for terrorists.

Obama was on first.

Cheney followed Obama.

On the surface, for the viewing audience, they were out of sync.

If these two major speeches had been reversed, with Cheney coming first, Obama would have sounded like weakest Prez on the issue of 'national security' that the USA has ever experienced.

Today, in the USA’s 'Democrat-dominated' Senate, there was an overwhelming vote against Democrat Prez Obama’s bringing Guantanamo Bay detention camp’s ‘alleged' terrorists to the USA mainland. This was part of Obama fulfilling his campaign promise to close down of 'Gitmo'. But, 'oops'.

90 voted ‘against’.

6 voted ‘for’.

This is the latest installment and ‘living proof’ that, when it comes to representing 'the bottom-up', heart-beat wishes of American voters, there is no ‘party-line-control’ in the “Land of the Brave, Home of The Free”. When it comes to ‘democratic representation’, they own the board.

Sadly, such ‘democratic representation’ does not exist under Canada’s 'top-down', party-line-controlled dictatorship where we elect parroting puppets who bow to their respective, ‘Party Leaders’ offices.

To make it worse, these spineless, gutless, backbench lemmings, many of which are only searching for perques and totally-indexed pensions, have the utter gall to address each other as being ‘Honourable’.

'TAMIL TIGERS' ARE DEFEATED IN SRI LANKA, BUT NOT EVERYWHERE.

Over this past weekend, it was proclaimed that Sri Lanka’s ‘Sinhalese-speaking’, mainly-Buddhists (74%) had whipped and beat their ‘Tamil-speaking’, mainly-Hindu (18%) community in their island-country.

The ‘Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam’, internationally-recognized as the LTTE, the ‘Tamil Tigers’ terrorist organization’, had admitted defeat on Sunday following their fierce, quarter-century civil war.

It was later announced that Velupillai Prabhakaran, head honcho of the minority LTTE, had been killed in a skirmish with the Buddhists majority’s Sri Lankan army.

Today, the Sri Lanka’s Prez, Mahinda Rajapaksa, declared the Sinhalese win in their parliament.

Yesterday, Tamil “Canadian” activists continue to demonstrate and wave flags with the Tiger emblems of their outlawed and ‘now defunct’ Tamil Tigers at Toronto. They had been demonstrating, legally and illegally, for a month in demands for a separate Tamil/Hindu state in their homeland.

Finally, following 4-weeks of not knowing which downtown streets will be blocked, Toronto drivers can take a sigh of relief. It’s all over. Sri Lanka’s Tamils lost. No more disruptive demonstrations.

Well, not quite,

Several leaders of Toronto’s Tamil “Canadian” demonstrators vowed to neither forget ‘the cause’, nor to stop demonstrating, rather to keep pushing on until ‘a Tamil homeland’ is a reality, even though their brothers/cousins have been soundly defeated in a long, bloodied, civil war.

I humbly suggest that such Tamil “Canadians” have no, currently-active ‘cause’ to support and nothing to ‘demonstrate’ about in Toronto’s streets.

May I further and equally-humbly suggest that there is only one place left on the planet for strongly-driven, Tamil “Canadian” activists to move to.

There they can continue to demonstrate and fight for their concept of “a Tamil homeland”.

That location is around 8,700 miles (14,000 km) away from Toronto’s “Gardiner Expressway”.

It is called “Columbo”.

NO 'BARGAINING POSITION" EXISTS FOR THE CAW

It's 11:59 and only seconds away in 'the countdown to disaster'. But, in their extended negotiations with GM Canada, it appears that the CAW bargaining unit has still not got the message?

Do they understand that everything is on the table from hourly rates and benefits to pensions?

In the past, through threats of work slow-downs or outward strikes, the CAW had the luxury of holding the employer (GM) to 'the coals', squeezing out every last, red cent that they could get.

Today, facing the imminent bankruptcy of GM Canada, the tables have turned 180%.
There is no more 'squeezing room' left.

It is that simple.

The CAW/GM negotiations are a question between 'survival' and the immediate 'liquidation' of GM Canada.

'No bargaining position' exists for the CAW to negotiate from.

Unlike past, CAW/GM negotiations, there is no ‘who blinks first’. Facing today’s realities, there is ‘no blinking’.
There is nothing more to extract.
The carcass is dead on arrival.
It is that cold and hard.

The CAW and its members either accept the government’s ‘terms for funding’, keeping their jobs, if only temporarily, or they don't.

Short of a single, entrepreneurial, white knight galloping to their rescue, the doors will be locked tight as liquidators’ auction off pieces of their assembly lines to pay off creditors.

VOTP has heard that, unlike in US bankruptcy laws, where a whole company can be sold without a purchaser ‘inheriting’ prior, union contracts, in labour-friendly Canada, unless challenged; union contracts are assumed to be part of the complete purchase of a company.

This sounds great for Canada's 'organized labour', but it is precisely this difference between US and Canadian law that prevents any “white knight" from racing to GM Canada's rescue.

No doubt, Canadian organized labour fought hard for this short-sighted provision in law.
Well, they won it.
Now, they can live with 'the protections' of this provision, at home with permanently-empty, lunch pails.

The CAW continue to ‘negotiate’ far beyond the government’s original, cut-off time of two of so days ago. They are ticking only seconds away from seeing the line cut and guillotine drop, starting their jobless, '13th hour lives'?

What 'white knight' in his right mind would want to inherit such a blind mindset at the other end of future, bargaining tables?

Apparently, the CAW is still not 'getting the message'.

We believe and accept that government directions and decisions, both major and minor, are made by those whom we elect for the common good. ‘On the surface’, those are the optics. Below the surface, lies a completely-opposite reality.

Remember our old smoke-breaks?

Back then. I half-heartedly postulated that the next target would be the obese.

Children shouldn't be exposed to the view of another human-being that was clearly unfit. It would be just as wrong as allowing children to see someone smoking. Seeing "fat-people" might promote an unhealthy sedentary lifestyle, after all.

I now realize the error of my ways. I did not think it through far enough, and I was giving government too much credit. It isn't that they wanted to prevent obesity, but to profit from it. Sin taxes. Witness a bill currently in front of the New York State Assembly.

If you play a video game, the state wants a cut. (Nevermind that that the biggest selling game-console out now (Wii) requires large physical movements, on your feet. VA hospitals and nursing-homes are using it for rehab purposes, with glowing results.)

If you go to the movies, the state wants a cut. (You will be sitting motionless for the entire two hours. But how did you got there and back, and how long did it take you, I wonder?)

If you eat "junk food", the state wants a cut. (By "junk food" I mean the popcorn, candies and drinks you bought at the movies. I don't know about you, but if I even bought one of those huge "small drinks", I usually end up running 1/2 mile just to find the bathroom partway through the movie. Maybe it is my age? Can I get a tax-rebate on the part of the movie I lost, NYS? Is there some tax-redemption for age?)

If you rent a DVD or video, the state wants a cut. (Lord knows, only obese people watch or rent DVD's. No-one else might. Anybody else is either a freak, or some good-samaritan contributing to the goodwill of society by this donation, right? You have a pretty svelt frame,so I am sure you wouldn't mind making sure everyone else does.)

A "piece of the action" is all that is required. Isn't that what these new "sin taxes" are about?

Anyway, it is just a bill. It isn't yet a law, but it is being snuck-in under the guise of raising money for a "NYS Childhood Obesity Prevention Program".
It won't get passed in its current incarnation, but eventually it will after changes.

The first city I ever saw to go smoke-free was Beverly Hills, LA. I was astounded 20 years ago to see this. I flew there on a plane that had a smoking section once. and yet in The Hard Rock Cafe in LA, I had to step outside to have a butt.
Now across the continent, where are we?

This "fat tax' is coming. I have no doubts about that.

Now this bill will likely be shut down, but some ideas will filter out to other laws.

I am going out on a limb here, but in the next ten years I expect chairs and couches to carry an additional tax.

One last thing: It is no small wonder that this senator proposed taxing video games. They make more money than Hollywood.

Ooops, but he also wanted to tax Hollywood too for their DVD's. The (tax-becoming) fat lazy people watching for 2 hours.

If he were that concerned about obesity, shouldn't he attack this at the source? Why not place an additional charge for those with cable? Those with can see more than two-hours worth of video.

I wonder if the Senator proposed and submitted his bill personally, typed on paper? Did a secretary or intern or whoever do that on a computer, sitting for time behind a monitor? I think he owes us, and the :secretary" something.

Yes, “it was there”, for six, long hours that blocked one Canada’s major and most-used expressways.

Yes, “it was there” as women, children and babies were used as shields, halting any police considerations about using force.

Yes, “it was there”, the delivering of the charm and loveliness in 3rd World religious/tribal conflicts close to the heart of downtown Toronto.

Yes, “it was there”, new and respected Canadians proudly waving flags of one of Canada’s outlawed terrorist organizations, the Tamil Tigers.

Oh, the sheer beauty of it all.

Later commenting on last night’s standoff, Ontario’s Premier McGuinty said “we have (a question of) rights here and that’s not one of them”.

Mr. McGuinty, you can consider yourself lucky.

If I had been involved in last night’s 6-hour blocking of the Gardiner Expressway, I would challenge and test your flagrant statement. This afternoon, I would be filing a complaint against you with both Ontario and Canada’s Human Rights Commissions.

Further, Mr. Premier, I am sure that many of your Liberals’ back-roomers would not like seeing you criticizing one of the Liberal Party’s prime, ethnic, voting-block ghettos.

Thank you, Pierre Trudeau for the sheer beauty in the multiculturalism that you created and brought to our quiet, Canadian shores.

Canada would be far less of 'a country' without ‘multiculturalism’ and incidents like Sunday night’s blocking the Gardiner Expressway by ‘our new and proud Canadians’.

Dear General Motors.

I know that I'm no business graduate. I know that you're loosing money. But why close 3,000 dealerships?

Dealerships are funded by private businessmen, using local banks, employing local people to work in their local dealerships. What's in it for you to close down the GM Dealer in Anytown, USA?

Or Canada?

How does this save you money?

How does this make your future brighter?

How does this attract customers to GM?

How does this help you to service your established, loyal customers?

And when the former employees of a GM Dealership decide to stay in the automobile business and work for a Toyota or one of the new Nissan dealerships, how does this assist GM in its goals?

It seems to me that you would be forcing thousands of dealerships to release their professionally trained staff to sell against you.

(I like General Motors vehicles.

Our household currently owns a Buick and a Chevrolet.
I plan to replace them with GM products when the time comes, if I can find a dealership after you close the one in my hometown and leave my friends unemployed and local dealer in needless, economic turmoil.

Maybe the fellow who sold me my Chevy will call me and invite me to have a coffee and test drive a Nissan.

With due respect, the 'closing' of dealerships may not matter at all if, as it is unfolding this week, there are no 'GM products' to sell.

Incidentally, the former CAW Prez, the forever "Buzz" Hargrove, was on the news today yapping about this week's closing of the GM Truck Assembly plant in Oshawa.

He blamed the Fed and Ontario Governments for the closure, not the design and production of gas-guzzling products that fewer and fewer North Americans want to buy.

Buzz's blame was centred on our governments allowing foreign automotive producers into Canada to produce and sell their products, ('non-CAW-unionized' products may I add).

Somehow, Buzz's mental capabilities had not taken into account that these non-unionized, 'foreign auto producers", Honda USA, Toyota USA, etc., had already established their sales/marketing 'beachheads' below our southern, Canadian border, in the USA.

Functionally, employing thousands of Americans, they could only be called 'foreign' in ownership.

Under NAFTA, the Fed and Prov Governments would had to have been living in 'La La Land' and smoking that prohibited, 'crazy stuff', if they hadn't opened the market and brought these companies into Ontario for the employment of Ontarians.

So much for 'Buzz'.

Prez Obama found 'a fall guy' in "Louis Caldera" for the 1,000 ft. buzzing of 9/11's Manhatttan by the plane that becomes ''Air Force One'' (when B.O. is on board) and that is, simply, that. Case closed.

Well, "case closed" if you don't ask who originally conceived the crazy thought of having the flight that terrified Manhattan's workers.

"Case closed" if you don't ask who never heard about 'picture manipulations' that have been available in "Adobe Photoshop" for the past, two decades.

"Case closed" if you don't ask who actually authorized the $328,835US for a photo-op over 'The (French) Lady' on Liberty Island in New York's harbour.

"Case closed" if you don't ask who authorized this 'line item estimate' in the White House Military Office's overall budget. ('The estimate' must have been there.)

"Case closed" if you don't ask where "the buck stops".

"Case closed" when Prez B. O. has so many other fish to fry, like using the current, economic chaos as an excuse to impose his left-wing aganda in healthcare, energy and the environment, but that's another VOTP blog.

Wow.

If you ever thought that ‘political correctness’ would be lost in a world that could be facing a potential 'pandemic' on the scale of 1918, you would be wrong .

Apparently, the term ‘Swine Flu” is ‘politically incorrect for Jews and Muslims
because eating or consuming ‘pork’ is not in their religious diets.

“JERUSALEM (AP) — The outbreak of swine flu should be renamed "Mexican" influenza in deference to Muslim and Jewish sensitivities over pork, said an Israeli health official Monday.”

(I have often wondered if Jews and Muslims have ever realized that, in one way or the other, all prepared-food ingredients use extractions, derivatives or traces from pigs every time that they eat.. Heck, if only in miniscule portions, everybody is consuming something ‘swine’ every day.)

The ‘politically-correct’ reaction against the term ‘Swine Flu” came from guess who?

Don’t ever think that the politically-correct, ‘World Health Organization’ (WHO) of the planet’s United Nations is insensitive to such labels.

Is 'water boarding' torture or not?

Well, yeah kind of but not really. I mean, I wouldn't like it but I don't even like having my prostate examined.

The point is, whether it is or not is completely irrelevant. When someone admits to doing something bad it is usually to divert attention from something much worse.

When a man confesses to his wife that he has had an affair with another woman she is outraged; but not as outraged as she would have been if she knew it was really fifty other woman plus some farm animals.

The media did not get this information on 'water boarding' through dogged investigative journalism or relentless congressional grillings. The Bush administration handed it to them on a plate. They wanted them to take it and run with it as fast and as far as possible. The subject has become so fascinating it will be debated on CNN for years to come.

The media have got their story.

They don't need to look any further.

EDITOR: Unlike you, I don't think that the story has any long-term 'legs'. Obama shut the practise down. The story will go the same way as the 'Monica and Bill' tale did. See, you had to stop, think and remember Monica and Bill and his cigar tubes, didn't you? That's the kind of 'legs' that the water boarding issue has.

I know that it is likely not connected, although some have suggested it, but got putdown by the media, but have you noticed that there was never a second 9/11 by Al Qaeda?

Mayor Michael Bloomberg is furious.

President Obama wants answers!

Both are questioning why the Defence Department secretly flew the Boeing 747 (Air Force 1, when the president is aboard) low across New York's skys for a photo-op. The 747 was accompanied by two F-16 fighter jets as it flew past the Statue of Liberty.

Thousands of office workers panicked and ran into the street. It was shockingly similar to 911 all over again.

The world deserves answers! Heads must roll on this one! It was a cruel and insensitive maneuver just to get a few photos of the 747 and the Statue of Liberty. Quick, somebody send the U.S. Defence Department a photo-shop program so that they can safely construct their own photos without scaring the daylights out of millions of New Yorkers.

I'll bet that the Manhattan bars made a fortune in the next few hours.

I'd loved to have heard the telephone conversations the anger and the profanity from Bloomberg's office, from Obama's office to Defence Department officials.

I guess that we won't be seeing those 'Obama promo shots' of 'Air Force One' with and over 'The Lady'.
