A MISSING PIECE OF ROCK 'N ROLL NOSTALGIA

Do you remember the "Joe Bennett and the Sparkletones"?

The "who", do you ask?

The one-hit-wonder, "Joe Bennett and the Sparkletones"

The band was from South Carolina and ranged from 14 to 17 years of age.

If you were "alive" in '56-'57, you may remember their one-hit-wonder,
'Black Slacks'

.

Joe Bennett and the Sparkletones
were even put on the Nat King Cole Show with a follow up record and and clearer-in-sound, updated (new band jackets) replay of 'Black Slacks', but their 15-minutes of fame in the history of rock 'n roll was over.

At my Hi-Y, YMCA/YWCA sock hops, fellow teens would 'half the beat' and actually dance to it. Not only 'dance to it', Black Slacks was a guarantee to get the real rockers ;up on the floor' in an instant.

The song was later slowed down and
'covered' by a few others, a recognition of success that any recording band looks for. Like most 'covers', none went anywhere.

There was only one "Joe Bennett and the Sparkletones".

Memories, huh?

I wonder whatever happened to each of the band members.
